Maggots in my Walmart Milk

I buy 20 pound bags of brown rice at the Asian market and once there was a FUCK TON of bugs in a bag. It was a problem with a shipment of a particular brand because as soon as I walked up to customer service with the bag they said yeah sorry about that, go grab another bag of any brand you want.

You have to wonder what other kinda crap is in our food that we never see or taste.
I live in New England and cod is pretty easy to come by around here. I've eaten a lot of it through the years. I'd notice that sometimes the cod fillets had dense veins in them but thought nothing of it and ate them just like with chicken veins.

In the last 5-6 years, I've started to do a lot of saltwater fishing. Last year I got invited on a cod trip. Steaming home, we're filleting the fish. The guy who invited me go, "When you get home, hold them up to the light and you'll be able to get the worms out easier." Turns out those "veins" were really parasitic worms that are in just about all the cod you can get up here. They are completely harmless to humans, but fuck that.

I've been at the fish market since and noticed fillets there with the parasites in them.

I don't eat that shit any more.

Thanks a lot..

Fucking disgusting. That is why you need the powdered shit. Take regular milk & add powdered chocolate goodness to it = win.

Well let's look at this realistically. Maggots only eat decaying flesh/protein matter.

Hence: The stuff in the garbage can was starting to rot. Someone forgot to take it out for X number of days. If there were maggots in the milk they were not the worst of the problem with the milk.

As far as other creepy crawly things in your food, I guess none of you have ever grown a veggie garden. :)

Ouch, that sucks. Never found anything in pre-packaged foods, but had a horrible experience with maggots a few months back. I'm from Northern Canada where your eyes freeze shut when you walk outside, so never had to worry about maggots.

Noticed they were in the kitchen garbage can one morning though, and started freaking. Tried to wake the better half up, but no chance over just some maggots. So I'm trying to get some work done, but all I can think about is these maggots in my kitchen. So I decide that's it, I gotta get them outside.

Not a chance I'm carrying a bag filled with live, crawling, hungry maggots though. Gotta kill them first. So I take a can of cockroach spray, and empty the whole thing into the garbage bag. Fuck, didn't work! It just pissed them off, and made them leave the garbage can. Now I have hundreds of maggots spreading out all over my kitchen floor. Fuck, fuck, fuck! Now I'm really freaking.

So I hope onto trusty Google, and look up how to kill maggots. Aha! It says boiling water + permetherin, which is in dog shampoo. I look, and sure enough, the the dog shampoo has permetherin in it! Now I got the fuckers!

Better half wakes up to moron me throwing pots of boiling water mixed with dog shampoo all over the kitchen, trying to win my battle with the maggots. Ugh... didn't go over very well. Got yelled and, so I just said, "well, next time wake up when I ask you! you clean up, and I'll take my laptop upstairs to work today".

Can of Lysol and a bic lighter -- flame thrower city dude.

WD 40 would probably work too -- I hunt bee covered hives in the daytime around my house with that shit. It drops em in midair.

Hey I like interesting sports.

See my other post..

Chocolate will not rot. Milk on the other hand will spoil if not kept at the proper temperature from origin to your table. That is most likely the cause if indeed flys had access to the milk ( open container).

It's not just walmart, this is possible from any grocery store, small or large. Walmart is like every other grocery store, they private label. If it was walmart brand milk, they get it from the same dairies every other grocery store does for their private label brands, it's not like walmart has cows.

It should be minimized though, of course.

You hit the nail right on the head. I live in the dairy state and have yet to see a Walmart Farm, or a Walmart dairy. They buy from the same local dairy that your grocery store, convenience store or any other local store buys from and slaps their own label on it. Most people don't realize but most of the generic foods (and other products) are made in the same factory on the same line and they just slap a different label on it.

Why the fuck would you buy food from walmart? I won't even buy fucking catfood form that place.

lol if you're buying major brands it won't make a difference where you shop, it's all the same, just go where you pay less. there's no shame in shopping at Wally world.

Where the fuck do you guys live that you find all these bugs and maggots in your food? I've never had anything like that happen, ever.

That you know about. Maybe you're eating too fast. ;)

I've done a ton of research on the supply chain in the food space - farm to shelf. There are lots of tracking protocols, and these days, it's complex stuff. Obviously, maggots in the any foodstuff or liquid is an anomaly. But it happens.

And it doesn't matter where you buy food.

My dad got an apple pie from wawa, you know the small ones, and took a bite into it and there was half a cockroach (pretty big too) in it. Apparently he ate/spit the other half of of the cockroach. He did take pictures but I'll have to get them from him. He's not the one to make a quick buck off something dumb like this, but everyone kept insisting he call a lawyer. The lawyer said he can't sue or anything since he didn't go the hospital. All he did was throw up.

See maggots in garbage.
Lose mind.

Please turn in your man card.

Pro tip: maggots are excellent fish bait. And, stepping on them will kill them faster than dog shampoo.

Been lucky and haven't ever found critters in purchased food. My wife would absolutely lose her shit, so hopefully we keep this streak going.
