The wallpaper thread got me intrigued - how do you guys use multiple monitors?

What's your usual setup? What do you keep open all the time?

I've used a couple of monitors on and off - currently using a very budget setup (blurry 19" CRT - argh!), but about to upgrade a bit - I've mostly used multiple monitors for music production though, not working.

Do you use the windows/mac/Linux built in stuff? Software from your graphics card manufacturer or third party s/w?

Hope I'm not asking you to share some big secret with this one! Cheers.

LOL dual monitors are no big secret. I'm a designer so I can't live without dual monitors.

My graphics card comes with support for dualies, I believe its a PNY FX 540 Quadro.

3 monitors.

Monitor 1-19"-Remote destop to my laptop. All my e-mail and SQL and development tools for my clients are on there.

Monitor 2 - 24"- Used for the main project I'm working on, usually have a couple of terminal service sessions going, all my IMs and my to do notepad.

Monitor 3 - 19" - Usually has my browser loaded on it.

Once you go to a multi monitor setup you'll never want to go back. It helps in ways you won't even understand until then.

Only downfall.... If you use different monitors the color/display doesn't alway work out right. My main monitor has better color than the 2 -19" monitors, but I paid $1200 for it.

Eventually I'll move to 3 - 24" monitors across the bottom and 4 - 19" monitors across the top. When the disposable income dictates I can.

Oh I use 2 256MB $100 dual head video cards. XP does all the monitor managing just fine. Although there are other programs out there that can extend your task bar and make it relevant based on the monitor.

I was going to ask the exact same question Lazy Hippy...I've just got one laptop.

It does look like a pretty sweet set up. But Not quite sure I need it.

7 fuckin monitors - that's mad shit!

I've used 2 before for different apps - but only really for music production, not for this game. I know the basics and certainly understand the advantages, just not sure what is the more productive way to have them setup.

I'm rockin the 3 monitors. The 17" from the laptop, and 2 20" dells. Every now and then i take my laptop on the road and it feels like work takes that much longer. I don't think I could ever go back to just 1. Even with Firefox its just too much time clicking...

I currently have a semi 4:
2 19" that i want to get a bigger replacements for
1 15" widescreen on my laptop
1 17" on my file and print server running ubuntu
i want to get my desktop to be at least running 3 21-24" widescreens soon, the others i would just leave the same for now.

Do you have to have a bad ass computer to run dual monitors?

Not at all mate - I had 2 running on a P3 years ago. You just need graphics card(s) to handle them.

It's great to heard how many monitors everyone is using - but what I really want to know is how you are using them day to day!

I'm guessing most peeps run them all from one pc/mac - but what does the average affiliate marketer run on each of his/her monitors?

I'd also be interested in hearing about what cards you use.

Thanks Lazy.

I'm also interested in hearing how people use the extra space. I'd need to purchase a new graphics card (and of course monitor) so the upgrade for me would be around $400 or so (using the Gateway 19" Widescreen HD which are bad ass).

I'm running a 20" Widescreen as my main, with a 19" as my secondary. When I get a laptop soon I will install a program called Synergy on my laptop and desktop.

Normally on my main monitor, I have my browser open with whatever I'm doing..Keyword tools, Notepad++, etc. On my secondary, I have IRC, Winamp, Google Talk, Trillian, MSN, and FlashFXP.

See pictures here and here. Since I took those pics, I got some Logitech X-530 speakers to replace those POS speakers I had. Oh yeah, ignore the wallpaper, I am too lazy to remove it..I've had the room for 10 years and am moving in a couple of months.

Here's my setup in my room (The technical center for getlandingpages.com plus all of the other stuff we do on the internet)

4 x 19" Monitors across 6 PC's. Also a 27" HDTV. The big white thing is a little rackmount thing I built that can hold up to 8 computers (currently housing 4), it does all my automated stuff for me and runs off the left workstation with a KVM switch
