anyone here do martial arts?

I did kickboxing for several years when I was younger, 13 fights undefeated. I was in it more for the fitness and competition rather than self defense although it does teach you a lot about control and respect and I believe the most powerful thing I took from it was confidence. I havent trained for over 15 years now but I still feel confident in most situations. I think confidence carries over into social/business situations too.

Completely. And towards girls too.

Occasionally I'll have vivid dreams about fighting and I haven't trained in Krav Maga in nearly eight years; the way of thinking literally becomes part of your being.

nice just looked at a Krav Maga School today actually and all instructors meet both your rules.

I am going to take a look at a crazy 88 BJJ/MT Boxing/MMA school next.
All I need to do know is get a gun and maybe a taser/pepper spray.:cool2:

+1 for BJJ, Judo, Muay Thai & Kyokushin. Ideally you'd do one grappling and one striking art if you were interested in an MMA career. But if you want the most well-rounded martial art it'd have to be BJJ hands down.

It was a joke.

BJJ is good for one thing and one thing only, ground fighting. That by definition makes it not a well round art, fighting system, or whatever.

I disagree with this statement. BJJ is a well-rounded martial art intended for self defence. Whilst it is true that the BJJ practitioner wants to take his opponent to the ground, the only reason we want to do this is because it is the most efficient place to choke, joint lock and strike your opponent from.

The only time I'd agree with your statement is if we are referring to a school that practises sports jiujitsu, which is a totally different ball game.
