Holy shit! DMOZ is still around? I thought that shit died in 2004
Anybody use it for anything other than link juice?
Anybody use it for anything other than link juice?
i actually had an internet business class in college last year and a question was what is the most important directory to get your website listed in? the answer was dmoz. It just seemed weird to me that shit was in textbooks in 2011
only have 1 site listed on it but that site is #1 for its keywords
Why would anyone give a shit about getting a link from dmoz in 2012? Why would anyone even go to the effort of paying someone to get a link from there in 2012?
It still has a measurable effect. I'm an editor for a specific category and whenever I inject my bullshit, not only do I see improvement within a couple weeks, but sometimes the site title in the SERPs will change to whatever anchor text I use in the DMOZ listing.
I'm sure you all know about this but I'm sharing it in case no one does.
You could also go to the category find an editor and email them asking if they would be willing to add your link. I've done this with a few domains and it's worked every time.
Example, I want a link in Health and fitness certification
1. Go Open Directory - Health: Fitness: Certification
2. Scroll down to the bottom where it says Category editor: ksfiness
3. Click on that person and fill out the form.
You can also go deeper by taking that name and snooping on the web to see if you can find the person. I know everyone here knows how to troll so I'll leave that to you.
as far as getting ranked in certain categories your sorta fucked. I need a listing in a category controlled by this guy: https://twitter.com/#!/seomike obviously he's not going to budge as it's in his best interest (from a competition standpoint) not to.
