Price of gas

All of this is really Bush's fault. :338: Hehe.

Really, I would place the blame on a lack of planning and foresight. But, if we have to choose a scapegoat Bush it is.

If Kaveman were CEO of America this would not have happened. Kaveman '07.

Not at all. I have no idea how you reached that conclusion.

I reached that conclusion because you sad we EU guys dont understand the distance you have in the US between cities.

I thought it was some kind of defence to bitch about high fuel prizes but now i reread the post and it was about public transportation, i guess i made a booboo, My bad.

I drive a 2003 Ford F-150 with the V8...

I currently commute about 30-40 minutes each way to work, my girlfriend and I also take my truck pretty much everywhere...

I see the biggest problem with new technology and such is the oil companies... As long as they dont see a way for to profit from hydrogen, solar, etc. vehicles it wont ever happen because if hydrogen cars or vehicles using renewable come about mainstream, that means no money for the oil companies.. And you know damn sure that aint gonna happen... Even if it does, many speculate its too late to reverse the damage already done..

I live in Northern Virginia (just barely)which is a fairly high populated area about 30 minute drive to DC where I work and about 45 minute drive to Maryland where I goto visit friends and such. The Metro system we have here is great! You can get pretty much anywhere in DC and the more suburban cities around it.

However the closest stop is about a 20 minute drive from where I live at which point I might as well drive the rest of the way into work. There is a bus that runs from the more distant cities here in VA to The Metro but they only run every few hours which really blows and on top of that their route is so shitty that it would take at least 45 minutes just to get to the highway (which is only about a 10 minute drive by car).

Maryland is a lot better their RideOn system has buses that run every 15 minutes or so and hit more Metro stops than VA's system.

Better public transportation would be amazing however I don't really see it happening anytime soon especially around here. Id expect gas alternatives to grow much more before someone decides to fund better public transport.

I don't really know why I shared this... but I thought it might give a little insight to those not familiar with our situation over here.

So your saying because the USA is a big place you have to pay less for gas?

I start to wonder what people are paying in China :D
You pay a lot because of the taxes imposed by your government. The price of the imported crude is probably the same. Americans simply won't stand for the price being so high because of our consumption habits. We do drive far distances, and our vehicles are wasteful. We like the comfort and safety of big cars. Our bad.

I don't know how much the Chinese pay, but I do know they're gulping a lot of supply to stoke their massively growing economy. This factor, as well as other developing countries using the oil supply, is part of the reason for the high prices. Demand is not going down anytime soon.

Now how can we exploit this as affiliates? Can't we think up some business angle to benefit from this? Every challenge is an opportunity in disguise.

Ehh, calling Metro great would be a stretch. The entire system is built around commuting to and from DC. Ever try going from, say Montgomery County to PG County on the Metro?

Also, most Ride Ons around here seem to run every 30 minutes, not 15 - and take 45 minutes to cover the distance that should be covered in 10.

I just got back from a quick trip to San Francisco - now THEY have a great transit system! I only wish DCs was even half as good.

Im looking into biodiesel... my next truck is gonna be a power stroke and I will be paying $0.80 per gallon. Just take some work :)

I've been taking a more serious look at that too. I've been wanting a diesel for awhile, anyway. I've never been a huge fan of Dodge but I really like the look of the latest Dodge Ram 2500 Quadcab SLT 4x4 with the 6.7-Liter Cummins Turbo Diesel. It looks pretty cool with a lift and some decent tires. Here's one I found being sold on Ebay:

And the best thing about it is that with Bio-diesel, no matter how much it looks like a gas hog, I'd be paying about 75 cents a gallon and running cleaner than even the smallest Prius! I'm very seriously thinking about it.

Yeah, stop complaining... it's about 4 quid a gallon here - $8. .

You mean the UK? i've been running on GPL since the 70s. A third of the price and zero pollution. I spend about 35p a litre. In europe many people run on methane, that was 16 UK pence a litre not too far back.
With a gpl car you don't pay London congestion charges either.

GPL??? LPG - liquid petroleum gas?? Yeah it's cheaper, but they are starting to tax it more and more, with conversion costs it's looking a lot less attractive than it did a few years ago.

I think bio-diesel is better really - but not the commercial crap from petrol stations, just run ya car on vegetable oil! No conversion needed, cut with a bit of diesel, runs clean and really cheap.

My mate does it and apart from the smell (if using used oil) it's great! (of course, you should declare it and pay tax on it but many peeps don't!)

Well compared to other public transportation systems we aren't that great, I'll agree with you on that.

But who honestly goes to fuckin PG!? ;)
Well I don't so.. can't really comment. And wouldn't it makes sense for the metro to be designed to travel in and out of the BIGGER city?

But compared to VA the RideOn + Metro combo kicks ass. I miss Maryland:rasta:

that's more or less the standard reply I get every time I mention what I run on. :)
Yeah, I have a friend who's stinking the whole area on old oil, he's got some massive V12 Range Rover with American quadrillion cc engine fitted and untold amount of torque.
He runs on free fish and chips oil... he has to collect it, filter it, pump it by hand, stink like it and in the end if he gets caught he goes down for it.

Also he fights some sort of "local oil mafia" who made money on the oil before he started collecting it.
I think it isn't worth it as I do about 50mpg and if pushed, 110mph.. he can do neither but each to his own. He is'n gonna last long on that fuel, his wife told him that!

yeah man, cant go wrong. You can build it in your own house. It will take about 500$ to make the thing that makes the gas, then after that you just mix everything together.

I love dodges, thats what everyone drives around here. But I can get a way better deal on a powerstroke, plus the 08' are bad ass!
