I am a wickedfire member. I'm not going to disclose who, but I have been a wickedfire member for almost a year and I am disappointed to admit that the quality of discussion has diminished markedly since I joined. As a result I haven't posted in awhile, but I will occasionally stop and see if anything interesting has been posted.

Why am I using a shill account? Because if I use my 'real' account I'll get flamed by the new legion of true believers, disciples, and sycophants. If you want to ban me go ahead; its your loss not mine. I'm trying to improve this community by offering my honest input.

This place has transformed from a cool place to hang out for webmasters of all skill levels to more of a 'noob helper' place. Although a lot of the new members here have good intentions of helping noobs, the posts have a result become redundant and tiresome. Build blog, install wordpress, submit to directory, hire content writer, blah blah. It is almost as if they are geared for noobies but that leaves little for intermediate webmasters.

A lot of the old members where were active many months ago have stopped posting or have left for good. It also sucks how the resource section & winter case study never really came to fruition. ASW was also kinda a letdown. Many people were expecting more.

Just my opinion. Flame away.

Dude have some balls and post under your real account.

It doesn't matter if people agree or disagree with you. Posting under fake account names is pretty much the lamest thing you can do on any forum.

The value of wickedfire to me has dropped a lot, but those things tend to ebb and flow over time. It is what it is. Realize there is a lot of people talking shit, and about 5% of it is actually valid. That is the internet for you, though.

I will tell you this... posting under a fake account just to complain about the place does not help.

The message is what matters; not the actual account under which it is posted. SEO mike has banning powers and he may be off his meds!!

Are you also masking your IP address because the admins could probably match that with your other account.

I run a forum (but can't link it here obv.) that has the same problem.

If people are too nice to new members then the "old schoolers" give those people are hard time and are upset that the newbs aren't going through the same process they went through.

If people are mean to the newbs and don't give them extra "newb" help the newbs get pissed and send me e-mails about nobody sticks around very long.

In the end you can't please everyone and the best policy is NO policy. That is, you just let things happen and everything seems to work out.

Never mind, garg said it. Also I apologize for posting my guide. Next time I'll think twice before contributing to the forum, and I'll be sure to run the post threw ya to make sure it complies with your strict opinion on whether content is good or not. Sorry for the trouble.

If this place is for experts or intermediate whatevers then Jon should make that clear. Is this a communist ran forum or a deomocracy? I think Jon set it up as a democracy based on free speech for online marketers and thats why I'm here and I think most others are too.

It's a community not just a place to learn the newest scraper code or whatever they fucken talk about? I don't know shit about code, php yada yada but I AM AN ONLINE MARKETER WHO MAKES MONEY.

I am successful and will be more successful with these basic methods and tutorilas where I can pick up a gem here and there on the wicked fire

I see posts that are for everyone from beginners to experts and I read and follow the one's that pertain to me or can help me.

Go start your own boring forum if you want a bunch of anal experts in there talking about whatever you guys talk about.

This exactly.

You can't control forums, I learned that the hard way then later found out it's a phenomenon that happens every single day in internet communities. It's not exclusive to WF, it is every single forum on the internet. They are what they are, which is what the users decide they will be.

In other words, people that left are cowards.

Instead of doing what they liked doing, they rolled over and played whiner. Instead of ignoring the parts they don't like, they left. I'm not stopping anyone from talking intermediate webmaster talk. I AM an intermediate webmaster.

But I'd be a conceited bitch if I thought that I couldn't learn something from every single person here. Everyone has value.

Except Peter Drucker.

If you read through the older posts of this forum and move onward to today, the tempo of the board has definitely changed.

When I joined, I was slammed a little hard for asking what arbi is. Now people are allowed to ask "How can I make money online" and people actually fucking answer. That type of question used to be an immediate ban (again, read older posts) because Jon and crew only wanted those with some experience here.

Is this bad? Depends on the overall goal of Jon.

Ok, I agree with you on that Scott. I've seen that increase just in a span of a couple weeks. I think it's more of a troll invasion though, and I also agree it should be handled more aggressively. People don't ignore, it just doesn't happen. Banning should happen on the first post.

"You can't control forums", I....hate... this... theory.
As a board admin, my board went out of control about 6 months ago. I installed a community flagging system so people could assist with moderating and my board did a complete flip from ruckus to organized chaos. :)

In this case, I took control back. Before, those with the ban wand on WF used to ban obvious n00bs right away. Now??? So yeah, they allowed some of the change indirectly.

Scott, look into the psychology of internet communities. Busy communities have meltdowns. Yes, you can control the tone, but the users...no way.

If you control them, they will leave. They always reserved that right. I admined my forums for 5 years and it was almost like clockwork watching the ebbs and flows of things. The latest one was brutal though, and is taking much longer to repair. It will repair itself, but to say that admin could control the outcome is wrong. The users controlled it.

An admin has to choose who they want to cater to. Then they cater to that group. Even then, you can't control them.

You can't control forums
Says who? Of course you can...it just takes a lot more work than a loosely moderated forum. Yes, many users will leave...but those that see the value of the forum moderators' control (if indeed they are creating value) will remain and add value themselves.

No shit, Einstein. I'm in an internet cafe.
I hate to break this to you but there are lots of ways to track these besides the easiest method of IP tracking (done automatically by vBulletin).

Quite frankly, WTF is the point? You aren't using your account anymore to post, soooo, why bother protecting it? I don't get it.

How do we know you aren't Chris Lingle? :anon.sml:

By the way, I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I just really disagree with you on this. It could be because I admined my forums for five years, then removed myself from them six months ago and let the chips fall where they have, and the users defined that. It could also be because women are different as far as communities go.

Well shit what can we do about it? Just ban everybody who asks a stupid question. But then won't we need to figure out a uniform way of determining whether or not a question is stupid? Or how about we stop worrying about other people and just make some fucking money.
