America has nothing on most countries population wise. Surely the type of manufacturing that will come here isn't to make .99 cent store items. The world is big, we dont need much to keep all of us busy.

That's the real root of our problems, right there.
In other countries, and even in other times here in this country, when people go on some form of unemployment income (which is a completely flawed concept from the start considering that it is a reward for failure...) they feel SHAME. It is a serious, real, absolute SHAME that they can't feed their families themselves, and it is THE SAME THING as begging on the street for money or food.
Here it's nothing like that at all. We've allowed it to become just a lifestyle choice with no shame attached.
True story: Both of my brothers collected unemployment and even planned to do so while working the previous job... I'd hear them say stupid shit all the time like: "All I have to do is work one more month and then I'll be elligible for unemployment benefits. All I gotta do is start a fight at work and get canned... Then two whole years of sitting on the couch for me! YEEEEHAAAAWWW!"
Here's an easy solution: Since the propaoganda machine allowed us to think like this (as a nation) in the first place; it should be put to use brainwashing the masses in just the opposite direction; Installing Shame into those who would take welfare.
TV & movie ads, billboards, media mentions, Posters at every bus stop saying something like: "Accepting unemployment when you aren't having a real emergency is STEALING from your neighbors. Those caught will go to jail!" or "In Japan, honorable people KILL THEMSELVES before asking for money from their government."
SHAME them back into using it correctly. It could be done, but the fact that it isn't happening means that the powers that be don't want them to think like that for a reason.
This isn't the soviet union brah. Shame is not embedded in the US culture

The only thing keeping USA afloat is manufacturing innovation. If that stops were fucked and China will be the number one super power. Which they will in the next 10-20 years if Americans dont get hungry again. Which they wont; history repeats itself to often.
Funny to see an article from over a year ago on this topic being completely wrong, more than a year later.
IP will always be stolen with the internet in play. Guarantee it. I agree with oil prices being high. Labor costs are rising in China. Quality is suspect, but the Chinese aren't morons. Wait until they get the technology and can produce more.
Africa is a place where it is centrally located and is 5 of the top 15 fastest growing economies in the world are there. There is always an emerging market some place.
But another reason why US manufacturing will return. A weaker dollar helps exports. Of course if other countries debase their currency to offset this to keep employment high, then the poorest people (and those on fixed incomes) get screwed due to inflation.
All in all, the US has a comparative advantage in technology. But China will catch up. But the market will sort itself out.

The question is not if China is the next super power, the issue is that the US will lose this position.
The US super power status the last decades had mainly to do with WWII, and this is coming to an end. And i think we wont see such hegemony super power again for a long time.
