Help Me Create Computing A Paradise

I'd like a little advice from more tech savvy individuals and would like to know how would they go about doing this?

I'm giving myself until June 1 to get this finished and would like to know how you guys would go about doing this.

The goal?

To have all of my media and nonsensitive files running from a cloud hosting platform accessible from every device.

Essentially I would like to access to all of my computer data via the Internet with several layers of redundancy, security, and a clean GUI.

I'm getting a few Galaxy Tabs to keep throughout the house and will be replacing one car stereo in a similar fashion as this (except I'm doing the audio system right).

Here's what I'd like to do:

Store All Files With Multiple Levels of Redundancy
Giving Living Room TV Accessibility to All Media Files (while keeping Xfinity only a push or a click away)
Access All Files from Tablets and Laptops (Including the car and office)
I'm also going to have a tablet cut into the bathroom mirror with speakers mounted in two spots in the bathroom

My budget for this is a few grand and I want to be done by June 1.

Nice. +1 for going with Android as well. I'd be interested in keeping up with your progress.

Random idea: document everything you do and buy, grab affiliate links where applicable, and stuff it all into a video/pdf ecourse and sell it or at least make videos for YouTube that links back to a site that details the process and serve ads. You're going through all the work so you may as well make a few bucks too.

I'm actually buying them for the hardware + price. I'm open to changing the native OS depending on the needs. I was actually thinking more along the lines of Ubuntu or Mint and running Ubuntu Server from the cloud.
 
Roku + Playon on a media server or desktop for local

I used to use ps3's + ps3 media server but find the wireless G to be too low when streaming high def (tried powerline AV as well) and found I can get the best quality from playon + roku on wireless N

Not sure about xfinity as I don't have it

I noticed that too (my second thought was: is this guy the Aussie Elmer Fudd?). But then again, I am a proud "Retrosexual"....( I shoot shit, like red meat, fix things myself, and avoid spa's).

Will check those out. I'm probably going to go with a cloud set up like Amazon and use Ubuntu + Ubuntu One everywhere I can.

I just played with Unity last night and fell in love.

How about getting a life? make the fact that you can't access you stuff from time to time a mind break, rather than the opposite.
 
As for a mobile solution unless you're willing to go deep into the project I would seriously reconsider the Galaxy Tab install in your dash.

I don't know your level of experience and I've been looking at the same ideas for my Volvo which uses the MOST Fiber Optic system.

The issue you run into building off a system like that is in DA-converting. not going to go into in this thread hit me up if you need help on the Mobile Audio

I also don't know if you have Single or Double or even Din and a half but if you have single DIN look at the Parrot Asteroid (Don't care for it) which you can find on Amazon

Double Din solution you can look at the Foryou/Adayo AN6B01 running froyo Android 2.2.

Just checking in. So we've come up with a design car the car audio and tablet header mount that we're going to do next month over a weekend. I'll be sure to upload pictures of the finished product.

I'm also trying to figure out the best way to hide a radar/laser detector since I'm going to be taking the family on a road trip through several municipalities that don't "allow" those types of devices.

Any ideas would be greatly welcomed.
 
You should check out mp3car.com there are detailed photo projects in the forums. Info and procedures on installing in damn near any car.

this. i also find it ironic and amusing how as programmer, i should (stereotypically) be the one to latch on to things like "the cloud" and tablets, but it's mostly the non-technical people who seem to be adopting these things. as a person, i try to make myself independent of others. why would i make my data dependent on someone else?
