I decided to get a nook simple touch this week because I wanted something to do while I shit. It's kind of a complicated situation. On average, my shits last around 12.5 minutes and due to anatomical reasons, I have to hold my dick with one hand while I'm taking a dump the entire time, so that leaves me with one free hand to hold something.

I would definitely recommend an e-ink reader to anyone who reads regularly at all. I have two tablets, but this is really what I should have got in the first place. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't like it because it's slightly smaller than the size of a regular paper back, but the size actually works pretty well.

I haven't ran any chart heavy journal articles through it yet, so I can't quite comment there, but for what journal articles I've read so far it works well enough after you convert them. I use Calibre to manage my library and convert articles/books, but I don't let it manually add them to the device because it never gets it quite right. But definitely get Calibre if you are going to get an e-reader.

I usually buy my ebooks on Google Books or use my local library and databases for journal stuff.

Bro, you're doing it wrong... you should be rubbing one out while your hand is on your cock and tweaking your nipples with the other... all the while dropping a deuce... this is called "multi-tasking".... when you're on the grind there is no other way.

BTW: Only morons don't use Kindles. Their e-ink is superior and so is their network... Which is the #1 criterion to anyone that has used amazon's network at all.

I haven't tried this, but it seems like a good idea. I'll let you know how it goes.

I agree with your statement for the most part, but I don't like .mobi as a format as well as some other nit-picky things, and the design of the newest Kindles are a little off to me. A Sony PRS-T1 would have probably been my next choice had I taken the time to find one I could touch in person.

Bah. Nook Simple Touch rooted with Kindle app = ultimate ereader. Do amazon, BN, Google Books, etc etc.

Never tie yourself into a single system or format if you can help it.

I have one of those too. 7in won't fit most comics 100%, manga should work better though. It's harder to hold with one hand which was one of my requirements, but reading was fine aside from that. It's actually a really solid device, the browser is the best I've used on any tablet aside from an iPad.

That said, I would wait for Googles 7in tablet coming this summer and see what they are doing first before buying one. The only reason I don't like the Playbook (and Touchpad, and WP7) is they all can't do eap-ttls/pap encryption for the WiFi and it's been an issue for years. This means I can't use the WiFi at a few of the places I go which have this setup. It's real frustrating.

Touchpad/iPad (anything >8-9 inches) is the best for comics and probably pdf's with a lot of graphics/heavily typeset too. The entire page fits without having to diddle with it.

Kindle + Calibre = win.

I bought the cheapest Kindle because it was lighter and I liked having the physical page turn buttons. Highly recommended.

Also, the fact that you can email your downloaded books to an email address and have them show up on the kindle is winsauce.
 
Here's why I like the Nook Touch:

  • Rootable (can run other Android apps like G Books, Kindle App, etc.)
  • SD Slot - Pick up a 32gb microSD for $25 and you're set for life
Why Amazon wouldn't add a microSD slot is beyond me. With my Nook I can take 10,000 books with me everywhere and not have to charge it for a month.
