Next big thing in mobile (hint: not mobile)

There will come a time that a handheld phone will be as powerful and can hold more data then all of the G, and more powerful then the worlds more powerful computer data centers now.. Think about that.. one day it will happen..

The new type of "CHIPS" will be powerful enough to pull it off, think of this.

You have a phone and in real time it could know everything that is being put into cyber space the second it is there..

It wouldnt access a cloud, like you know today... because it could hold every bite of data in your hand. The data might go into a cloud at first.. but your handheld device could hold all the data itself.

And your handheld could look at all the data faster then anything today.
Bio chips for example could hold more data then a million G's, right in your hand.

Think about all the computers of the world today, and being able to have that much computer power right in your hand.

Your phone could send out spiders, and index whatever you wanted as fast as you wanted.

Ah ok, Yea I can see it filling that niche for people who don't own gaming consoles. Hell if tablets get powerful enough they could replace desktops completely. At that point everyone would have a computer that you could just hook up to the TV.

Btw at this point you can hook up a phone to a tv and do what jcash is already talking about right? play games and mess with apps, so whats the difference? I'm guessing the resolution blows?

If the next best thing is making games and apps for TV's I think your still missing a big problem in your step. You still have to make something worth buying. And all everyone else whos successful in the space has to do is offer TV versions of their apps.

Article in last week's Businessweek talking specifically about the impact ESPN and Regional Sports Networks have on premium TV subscription rates. If sports were offered a la carte, they predict that the price would quadruple, because most people wouldn't be willing to pay for sports.
It's really disappointing that there's a clear roadblock in the way of a better product, but nobody is doing anything about it.

I use a DLNA TV and use Serviio to watch downloaded shows and to stream shows from Hulu for free. Once an ESPN3 plugin comes out for Serviio, it will be nearly perfect.

I use Plex myself.

You can do that in 1080p. The difference is the technical understanding. It's likely an average nerdy WickedFire user could get that setup, but ask their parents and you're not going to get it done.

How about free and opensource?
