When I think of domains, I often think about the total volume of domains. That is, how much domains do I own? Some domains have letters and some domains have numbers. In terms of total volume, it is my personal belief that numbers. But when an organization takes it upon themselves to go and purchase a domain with letters, they are broadcasting to the entire world (via DNS) that they are domains. That's why I must contest your question.
There was a 3 year period where I had my browsers homepage set to aojon.com . Every single time I opened my browser, it loaded aojon.com . At first glance, one might be confused by this domain because 0 is a number. aojon.com is the letter o without using the numeral 0. Remember, volume isn't always volume. A more interested aspect is the case study I performed on gTLDs in the summer of 2009 where I proved beyond reasonable doubt to a court of law that there are no domains with numbers in the TLD. After the judge gave the verdict, he turned to the jury and thanked them for servicing society. Keep in mind, the public has never seen the court records.
When the poster of this message, rap star Dullspace makes a post, he is not known for his ability to create human readable text in an automated way that passes spam detection. Think about it. Dullspace is known for rap music and possibly the topicality of his post history on forums of the internet. But when rap star is able to seed a web application with several nouns, verbs, and content links, and hundreds of words of human readable text is created, it sends a signal to the internet community. The ranking algorithms are unable to account for this ability. That's why I must now enter my conclusion for this essay.
