Yeah selling the footer links on templates you give away for free is a good idea and you can also boost your ranks with linking to your blog..

I agree and disagree, I agree that it can make you a few small bucks but I think the value of the backlink to your own site holds more weight but thats just my personal preference, everyone is different.

Well thap depends what small bucks are for you :) heh !

By addding your link to the footer you can get a serious PR, just ask Waraas where he got his PR.

Dont add it at the footer, hardcode it to the blogroll and you find far less people remove it

This is a touchy subject for so many reasons, because I recently heard that Google hates links in the footers of templates because most are sold links, or just there to increase PR, so is it safer to put them in the sidebar, do less people remove it from the blogroll?, I really don't know these things forsure but it might be worth gathering a few numbers from it.

WHA?!? Do you have a reference to where you heard/read that?

I mean, I know google's getting on this big kick for paid links and nofollow tags... But site design links are a staple of the web since day one. Back in the day, it was pretty common for the site designer / developer to give a small discount in return for a link space in the footer. Same goes with WP themes - you get the benefit of a great professional level theme as long as the original designer gets some credit and link value.

That'd be ANOTHER ding against google. See if you can find wherever you read this, I'd be curious to learn more.
