Anyone planning on taking advantage of BlackBerry's $10k offer?

Final details aren't out, but basically RIM will guarantee you $10,000 if you build a quality app for the BB app store. You need to make at least $1000 from your app to qualify for the $10k guarantee though.

I'm thinking this is a great opportunity to build a cross-platform app using Titanium, PhoneGap, etc. and use the $10k from RIM to fund the development.

Anyone else hear about this?

RIM marketshare is so small right now that it would be extremely difficult to make an app that makes $1000 these days. Add to that the absolute nightmare it is to code for, and it's not even worth it. By the time BB 10 comes out, their marketshare is expected to be less than 5%, and nobody is going to rush back to them just so they can use mostly abandoned BBM.

Compare that to android which now has over 51% marketshare in the US, and is a breeze to write apps for, and you pretty much have a no-brainer.

If I can actually get a guarantee that I will pay, I'll price the app @ $10 and buy it myself 100 times.

Whole point is to use a cross platform to develop it so I develop it once for Blackberry, Android and iOS at the same time and use RIM to fund it. I wouldn't develop it for Blackberry solo

They might get their shit together though. Pulling some stunts at their conference:

If you built an app, sold it for $2.50 and gave $5 to the first 400 people to buy it as a facebook competition or stg, would you still qualify?

BB and Android both use Java to write their apps and BB makes it very easy to port Android apps to BB.

Tell BB to save those stunts for Super Dave.

Thought about it, hit Wikipedia, saw that BB still only has 7 million users.

Fuck that, my new Galaxy Nexus gets here tomorrow.
