I'm thinking of going to college and wondering if this would be a good career to get into (job demand wise) is there going to be a demand for affiliate managers when I'm out of school or is it hard to get that job? Is there any additional education that you should need besides majoring in marketing? I really like affiliate marketing, I'm always learning something new, and don't see myself going anywhere else in the near future. I think getting a college education in makreting could benefit me whether I get a job as an affiliate manager or not.

By the time I'm done with school and I get my degree and with the experience I'll have in internet marketing I would hope that it would make me a highly qualified candidate for this position. Ofcourse by this time I'd hope to be rich from internet marketing :D but just incase if I'm not, I still want to be a part of this business.

Yeah, you will probably have an advantage with some type of degree (companies seem to like this) but remember that anything you learn at university will be out of date in the online world by the time the course finishes. It's really just a way to demonstrate that you can stick at something for 4 years.

The best way to snag an aff manager job is to demonstrate that you can be a successful affiliate. That means learning PPC, SEO, copywriting, basic design etc etc.

Of course, if you can do that you may not want to be an aff manager anymore. (hence the reason that aff manager salaries are skyrocketing at the moment).

i say go to college and work on affiliate type stuff the whole time your there and if you feel that you would like a steady paycheck and regular hours, become a manager, however if you like the freedom, just be an affiliate

Yeah, ofcourse I'd still be doing affiliate type stuff, like I said I'm always learning new things. I don't know if I'm going to be able to make a living being an affiliate, right now my career is in help desk (entry desk) which I don't really like anymore, and I can't think of anything else I would like to do. Well, web design would be beneficial.

being an affiliate manager you need only a few skills all of which I don't know that college is the best place to get.

1. basic internet knowledge
2. a desire and hunger to learn about the industry, live, eat and sleep it. I can tell you I have computer books on my nightstand, marketing books in the bathroom and a laptop with me everywhere I go. If you have a similar passion you'll do well. But hell if you have that passion for anything you'll do well with it.
3. Learn how to work with people and sell. Really salesmanship is one of the strongest attributes you can have. But good salesmanship, in my opinion stems from a good understanding and passion. When I talk about good salesmanship the best sales people really don't say much, that doesn't mean being a two bit huckster. I'd suggest buying a copy of "You can't teach a kid to ride a bicycle in a seminar" by David Sandler. Greatest sales book over on how to "unlearn" being a crappy salesperson, which 99% of the population is born with.
