Who ever said I was a skinhead? I do believe in national socialism, but I'm not a skinhead... As for the ammo, I understand and completely agree, but that tul shit is bad. I posted a picture here not to long ago and it showed steel casing rounds (here it is again). Although 85% of my ammunition is either reloaded by myself or brass, I do have about 15% of my rounds through wolf for merely stockpile purposes.

I agree, they are dirty as shit but I wanted to see how my pistol handled different ammo. You won't see that shit going through there again unless there is no other choice in some emergency situation.

THAT is actually something I was just talking about learning how to do and plan on doing. Can save a lot of money, but its a skill you should know anyway.
 
Whelp this thread certainly got me thinking. Worst I can think of in the future for SoCal is an earthquake so I guess I'll prep in regards to that. What's everyone's preferred product for water filtration?

I like the MSR pump. It's been around for years, used by the military, and has a cleanable ceramic filter. Costs about $80 and can purchased almost anywhere.

Depends, the MSR units are good, I've got the MSR Miniworks EX Jeremy posted, mainly for backpacking. It is simple, reliable and field serviceable. If your water is fairly clear the Steripens are hard to beat. Both of these are best for more limited amounts of water. For more volume look at a gravity feed filter like the MSR Autoflow. You want .2 micron. These filters will not remove virus, which aren't normally a problem in North America. To remove virus, you would need a purifier like the first need, but it is not field serviceable.

Coming across a picture of what the roads out of our city looked like when Hurricaine Rita came at us....it reminded me of what this 'tard said about how you should have someone just "pick you up" lol

This was like this for literally 17+ Hours. Your averages speed was 2-5 miles an hour in spurts of being completely stopped. And this isn't a small section, this goes back as far as you can see....from Houston to galveston. EVERYWHERE you tried to go, had roads that looked like this for 17+ hours.

Don't listen to that idiot and expect to be able to be "picked up" or even "Drive yourself anywhere easily.

This was RITA, which was right after Katrina. The city was evacuated and everyone tried to leave thinking it would hit galveston. It took two days to get what would typically take 1 hr to drive.

And the worst part, is half of us drove to WHERE the hurricane hit. If we would of all stayed home...it would of missed us.

THEN, Hurricane Ike was on its way. And after the ridiculousness of RITA, a lot of people stayed home and then it smashed us.

How often area gets affected:
Brushed or hit ever 2.64 years

Average years between direct hits(Hurricane winds for at least a few hours)
17 Hours of Hurricane winds every 8.24 years

Average MPH of sustained winds (not gusts)
107mh

Statistically when the area should be hit next:
1 year over due

Same. We have always been hikers / campers but have been switching out the vehicle carried 8 man tent for backpacking with 1 - 2 man shelters. The original 72 hour bug out bags are now better equipped for longer times.

Also started researching compound hunting bows. Very interesting technology. Will not replace the Glock but definitely has it's place.
 
I'm in Ohio and didn't think I would need to worry about any disaster readiness plans. Then Sandy came and was being a bitch and it started to get me thinking. I've started to build up some supplies and hope to have everything finished within the next 2 months. First preparing for these winter months and making sure if something happens while driving we will be ok to survive a while.

SEVERAL people I have spoken to lately have been looking at bows as well. Yes, firearms will never lose their importance, but hunting silently is great. Mathews makes great hunting bows.

Not sure if I want a ROI for all the prepareness investments I made in 1999.
