I've read that as well but every time I see our cats drinking a saucer of cow's milk I think ' bullshit '
Cats aren't exactly representative of the animal kingdom as a whole...

I don't think so. Why do you say that?
The purpose of milk is to nourish the young. Human babies, like any other mammal, are able to digest milk by synthesizing lactase. But since adults no longer suckle, they stopped synthesizing a useless enzyme. Europeans are actually the ones with the genetic oddity--they are lactose tolerant even into adulthood. Pretty much unprecedented across the entire animal kingdom.
Hmm... I'm not arguing bc I don't really know, but I do know I drink milk and I digest it. I have absolutely zero problems with milk, so I don't see how we are all lactose intolerant.
So your saying lactase is the only thing that can digest milk? And that adult humans have none of it?
Anyone drink titty milk?
LOL Wut? I think you may have missed the point. Reread the original post and reply. The point being... animals can and do accept milk from and do suckle from another species.Cats aren't exactly representative of the animal kingdom as a whole...
I've read that humans are the only species that drinks another species' milk.

And all this shit about soymilk being bad for you is fucking stupid. Folks in Hong Kong drink 10x the amount of soy milk we do and they're living longer than most countries on the planet.
If lions started drinking rat milk, we'd be horrified and ask what the fuck is going on. But humans drinking cow's milk is somehow supposed to make sense.

Do you have European ancestry? If so, that would explain why you can digest milk. By breeding cattle, Europeans evolved the tendency to continue to produce lactase into adulthood.
Lactase is the enzyme that metabolizes lactose, which is milk sugar. Without lactase you are unable to digest lactose properly, making you intolerant to lactose. What I'm saying is that humans without European ancestry did not evolve the ability to produce lactase into adulthood. There weren't many domesticated cattle roaming Nigeria 15,000 years ago, so for humans in that part of the world (and many Asian countries) to waste resources producing lactase into adulthood would be wasteful, so it just didn't evolve.
