Need To Buy An Indoor Grill

Very cool. I am going to have to order one of these today. Is that one you linked to what your using?

Yeah I use the Lodge Color, they are great for the price, and I think mine is 6 QT. Basically just make sure it's enameled cast iron, as they sell non enameled, plain cast iron dutch ovens that you could say, use over a fire.

You can really go nuts with like a Le Creuset, or a Staub, but doubt they are really worth it. If the enamel chips on your dutch oven, I'd rather it be on a cheaper one, but that's just me. Although Lodge doesn't offer them, some other brands have oval sizes as well.

Also you'll often also see them sold as 'French Ovens'. There is no difference between them, from what I understand the French just hate the Dutch. You'll see that with Le Creuset, them being a French company.

Thanks for the share. I know you do a lot of drunken late night cooking. So I am assuming you do most of your cooking for 1 to 2 (1 to 3 for me) people. Do you find yourself wishing you had gone with a different size? Or is that 6 qt about perfect for what your using it for?

Yeah I'm normally just cooking for myself, but that being said I cook in bulk generally speaking, so I try and make at least 4 or more portions in one go. I generally find the 6 qt adequate. I don't usually feel pushed for size, and if I do it's because, as it turns out, I wasn't paying attention to the recipe yield and just made like a week and a half worth of meals in one go. :uhoh2:

If anything I feel like 6 qt is the perfect size, if you want to make sure you have a little breathing room go for the 7.5qt.

A grill pan is the way to go, just make sure that the peaks are high enough from the troughs to let the fat/grease drip off and not burn/stick to the meat. You can get nice searing, and if you use a bacon press to help things cook faster.
