Ever since this heat wave started, I've had inflamed nasal passages and mucus running down my throat constantly. I don't know why the heat would set this off but it's the worse it's been all year.

Anyone else dealing with this shit?

Neti pot bro

If you get one it'll come with the little packets of salt mix stuff but once you run out just make your own:

Made a big jar of my own stuff and it cost like $2... so now I can rinse like 4 times consecutively (I do it sometimes when I wanna get REALLY clean) without feeling like I'm being wasteful. The little packets are like 50 cents each... it's like a teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda.

Same here. I hate it. My sinuses and throat feel extremely sore/dry with alot of drainage. My allergies always bother me during this time of year, but in the last week or so it's been TERRIBLE.

I take benadryl + a saline nasal spray. Take a hot shower to open up your nasal passages and then just snort as much of that spray as you can handle. It works temporarily at least. A bottle costs like $4. It's cheap.

Zyrtec-D works wonders. I had the same issue until I started taking that. The generic is $18 for 24 at Walgreen's
Yup. Take benadryl too if you can stay awake. The Zyrtec is an anti-allergen, the D is what dries you out and makes you feel great and the Benadryl is an anti-hystamine.

Whatever you do DO NOT use that fucking sinus spray. It will work great the first few times you use it then your fucking nasal passages will swell up for days and you're mouth breathing. It's a fucking nightmare.

Also, allergies are an inflammatory process. Try to juice with a bunch of fresh berries and other natural anti-inflammatory foods.

You're referring to oxymetazoline and probably most other nasal sprays.

You are correct. I spent three-to-six months mouth-breathing. The shit fucks you up and you become addicted and reliant.

Very recent research may indicate that using only once daily will not cause a significant rebound congestion issue even after extended use.

Use a neti pot/neilmed kit and possibly the above once daily in moderation. Pseudoephedrine works like a champ but needs to be prescribed. It's probably worth it.

The above is my routine for chronic nasal congestion but I don't have allergies, I've just had three broken noses and have sinnusitis. YMMV.

You're thinking of the nasal sprays like Afrin and the Vicks spray. Those have harmful chemicals and should only be used in extreme moderation. They are also highly addictive and you have to eventually use more and more of them over time for it to work, as it damages the nasal passages.

However, we're talking about the natural saline sprays. They won't do any harm and you can use them as often as you want. Hell, you could snort a bottle in a day and it's not going to do any harm. It's basically just salt water.

My Allergist said Afrin shouldn't even be on the market because it's misused so much. Use it for more than 3 days straight and you'll regret it.

My dad was addicted to Afrin without even realizing it back in the 90s. I think he was forced into some type of nasal surgery because of the nasal passage damage.

I'm going in for a septoplasty and turbinate reduction surgery in 2 weeks. Fuck I'm not looking forward to it, but I've had enough with the sinus problems already ...

Drink lots of water. You're probably dehydrated.

Dehydration ->lowers immune system->body releases histamines to compensate->body overreacts because of too much histamine->produces cold like symptoms->take medication->addiction to medication...

Dehydration definitely makes things worse. I've started drinking water at every meal so that should help with the fact that I haven't been consuming enough agua.

Here's an interesting page on WebMD about what allergy sufferers should be eating. http://www.webmd.com/allergies/features/allergies-diet

If you can get your hands on some local honey, scoop that shit up and consume 1tbsp a day through whatever means you prefer ie, tea, on bread, straight up, or whatever floats your boat.
