Thought some of you might have some creative ideas...

I have a neighbor around 35yrs old. Married, two small kids and one on the way. Super nice guy who would do anything for anyone. He wakes up one morning and his arm is numb. It doesn't go away and when he goes to the doctor, they find out he has cancer, big time. Not much hope for him and the bills are piling up.

I realized it's one of those times in your life where you can't just sit back and not help.

Ideas so far:
concert
BBQ dinner
charity run
sell christmas trees/wreaths
Outdoor movie for halloween (have access to huge screen)

Don't give him money: Give him LIFE! Turn him and his lived ones onto Oleander Soup (which you can make yourself).

oleandersoup : Oleander Soup

This stuff REALLY WORKS! I made some for my father and a close friend. Both of their tumors shrunk tremendously. Regardless - If he is going to die anyway, let him go out fighting.

LOL. Unfortunately, whether he lives or dies, he still needs the money to pay the bills. He's to sick to work.

I looked up the soup... how could it not work with this list of needed items.

Materials Needed:

* Rubber gloves

* Garden Trimmers (such as small hedge trimmers or rose trimmers)

* Plastic trash bag or a large plastic shopping bag

* Large cooking pot

* Plastic or metal strainers (colanders)

* Paper towels or filters

* Coffee filters

* Steel tongs and/or steel screen or strainer type cooking ladle

* 20-ounce plastic water bottles or brown glass bottles

* Vodka or apple cider vinegar (organic non-distilled is best) for preservative.

* Flavoring (if desired) such as boysenberry pancake syrup

I saw something similar happen where I live. They did a BBQ at a local park, just hot dogs, chips, soda (cheap stuff) and asked for donations. They contacted some local churches and local new stations about the story and the BBQ fundraiser. They had a pretty good turnout. When kids are involved, it seems to move people more.

Also, setup a paypal donation site for people that cant make the BBQ and make sure to let everyone know about it.

This. Leverage the experience of those that have the experience, infrastructure, volunteers, and membership base to make something happen. You may have to take the lead, but the support,experience, and help they can provide should be invaluable in mobilizing an effort.

-or-

If he's a chemist he has other options.

This. A few other type of places that could help organize/raise awareness/provide support for or host an event like this.

Moose Lodges
Elks Clubs
Any adult fraternal orders or sororities (same goes with college frats & sororities if you're near a college)
American Legions
Eagles Clubs
Boy Scout/Girl Scouts

All of these and similar organizations are founded on the the ideals of good will and helping others. This is a cause they can and usually will get behind.

Hope things work out preferably for everything, but at least so that his family can get some help. Cancer is a bitch, pretty much every member of my family that has died has died of one form of cancer or another and it can take over quickly. Good luck to you getting this going and to your neighbor and his family.

I know you're being sarcastic , and I have a tendency to fuck around on here as well, but I am serious about this issue.

When dealing with a loved one and cancer and being presented the usual treatment options , shit gets grim and hopeless rather quickly. The treatments themselves are 99% of the time more painful than the disease. Ask any doctor if they would recommend the same treatment to a loved one or do it themselves. Overwhelmingly they will say; hell no!

If he has been given a short life expectancy HOW CAN TRYING THIS HURT?

You do need to protect yourself when dealing with the Oleander plant in its raw form. Hence the gloves. But once cooked and strained and the remaining liquid reduced down even further it is perfectly safe for human ingestion. I dosed three rats with it for two weeks in their water. No negative side effects at all.

Afterwords I took a tablespoon a day for a week with no ill effects. My body temperature escalated on the third day and I felt a little warm, but nothing happened in the sense of a contraindication. And I still take maintenance doses every week as a precaution against cancer.

An attorney whose mother was dying of cancer researched Anvirzel,a drug being used everywhere but here in America (see: Salud Integral-English ). He found the patent and dissected it and discovered the method of making Oleander Soup.

This is the real deal and you can make it in your kitchen! Many of the same active cancer destroying compounds are found in cannabis oil , that also combats cancer just as well as Oleander when cooked right , however you can make Oleander Soup for a fraction of the cost and the dosage available will last well over a year from one batch.

Or - you can be the sheep the Medical Mafia want you to be and "baaaaah -ok - baaaah - whatevs -baaaah".

Well, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. Hope all works well with raising money.

You might also try indiegogo.com - since you're in IM - why not bring attention to his cause doing what you know and do best?

Sorry. thought you were joking around... I definitely agree that mainstream medical does not have all the answers. Ill pass the oleander soup idea on to them.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Think of something outrageous to get on the news and get some attention to his cause. Something that could maybe go viral etc.

Not really my department but Im sure some people on here have ideas about what kinds of things could be done to grab some media attention.

App in the app store. A game or app that's sold and the $1 goes to the charity that sets up the account on the app store.

I was thinking about it while making some kids games, thinking it would be badass if an african got a chicken every time someone bought my app. Or a goat to milk or something that lasts longer than a day, assuming they keep the chicken for eggs rather than eating it. Or like seeds to farm or vaccines or something.

At the same time, the charity can promote the app, and people aren't likely to give it a shitty review if it's for a charity. So you'd at least get credit for some crazy sales numbers for your resume you wouldn't get releasing it on your own, and the charity gets money. All you have to do is send them the file to upload to their app store account. Maybe even get other people to donate just 40 hours to art, modeling, programming, GUI, audio, etc..
