Anybody here do it? I'm on the 7th day of a water-only fast.

For those who aren't familiar with it that much, this is a really great book [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Fasting-Eating-Health-Medical-Conquering/dp/031218719X"]on[/ame] about the health benefits of fasting.

And here's a case study by a girl who did a 21-day fast.

I'm starting to have vivid dreams about pasta covered in parmesan cheese and meatball sauce.

What's your experience been like so far? I've done 1 day fasts but that's it.

There's a slight decrease in energy, which is natural since you're fueled solely by stored reserves. There's very brief moments of nausea, which is also natural if you read that girl's case study and others like it.

The author of the book that I posted above is a doctor who did a 46-day fast, if I recall correctly. The further you go, the more your body detoxifies. He's also supervised thousands of fasts at his practice and the list of ailments cured by them is really quite fantastic.

The key is to drink at least a quart of water a day. From the Muslims I've known, they do straight fasts with no water at all, which is extremely damaging to the body. Aside from that, I feel perfectly fine, I just try to conserve energy.

How that guy is still allowed to practice medicine, I have no idea.
The vast majority of my patients, who adopt my nutritional and exercise recommendations for diabetes, become thin and non–diabetic. They are able to gradually discontinue their insulin and eventually their other medications.

I've fasted twice. Once for 7 days and the second time for 8.

The first time I dreamt that I rode a Vespa to a lavish hotel in San Francisco. It was full of supermodels. However, the only thing I thought of was swiping room service food off the trays outside the rooms. Go figure.

I just recently started looking into fasting.

I did 3 one day water only fasts this month.

What surprised me was that at the 14 to 16 hour mark I seem to think more fluently and my energy actually seems to increase.

I might start trying to go 48 hours once a week next month. I dunno.

Here's the article that got me started to research fasting. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/andrew-weil-md/fasting-health_b_1557043.html

He's also a big raw foods guy, which I'm not really crazy about. I don't really see what your problem is with him, though... he has tons of documented cures of people with ailments like rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, etc..

His approach seems pretty logical. Control what goes in your body and combine that with the body's amazing propensity to self-heal, and you'll have decent success.

One reported benefit by many people has been clearer thinking and more lucid dreams.

I intermittent fast 24/7. Look into leangains and IF.

Permanent Fat Loss without Fasting: The #1 Six Pack Abs and Muscle Building Workout Program | Burn Fat and Build Lean Muscle | Get 6 Pack Abs

Not since "Angelina Jolie" have two words created such a stir with guys as intermittent fasting (or intermintent fasting as it's sometimes spelled). This nutrition of alternating prolonged periods of fasting with shortened periods of eating has been around for a long time but has recently been reinvigorated in the bodybuilding and muscle building communities. But is it practical as a long term solution to fat loss?

As you'll see in this video, while I don't disagree with the science of intermittent fasting as a viable option for creating fat loss, I'm not sure it is the best option (particularly as an eating approach for a hardgainer who has a hard time building muscle). Why? Mostly due to it's strict patterning that prevents even some of the most natural aspects of the social side of eating.

Let's face it. Eating is a social thing. Whether you're out on a date with your girlfriend or eating with the family, anything that puts an awkward strain on the typical eating schedule can make for a tough long term commitment. I feel that is where we find the more rigorous schedules of intermittent fasting, such as the 6 hour feeding and 18 hour fasting split.

But at the end of the day, whether intermittent fasting works for you is going to be the deciding factor of whether it should form the basis of your nutrition. I say, if you are getting results...then go for it. However the minute you find it impossible to stick with for life, then I invite you to check out the ATHLEAN-X program and the X-Factor Meal plans at The #1 Six Pack Abs and Muscle Building Workout Program | Burn Fat and Build Lean Muscle | Get 6 Pack Abs

Every day is game day at ATHLEAN-X, and short term solutions just really aren't the consideration here. Hoping a large percentage of you will agree!

It sounds like they promote fasting primarily for weight loss. I'm doing it for the detoxification effects. Also, I don't really get the point of on/off fasting. From everything I've read, the greatest benefits are gained the longer you go into your fast.

I second what "OraganicJuice" said... regarding juice. I feel phenomenal when I juice regularly. I just get lazy and fall into the social aspects of eating with family and friends and lose my motivation at times.

I have only juice fasted for a max of 10 days before. But usually I juice to supplement my horrible diet. Growing up, in my trailer park "velveeta" was officially a food group. It was something we topped with trace amounts of broccoli only somewhat occasionally.

Lean/Mean Green Juice FTW

I've read and researched a lot about it and it's on my to do list. Are you being supervised or just doing it on your own? How long do you plan to go?

Seems like you've read the book so you probably know your shit but if you're planning a longer one than what you're currently at you should seriously consider some supervision from an experienced doctor for numerous reasons. One of them being you could basically pass out, smack your head and die, as happened recently under poor supervision.

I recently spoke to someone who had water fasted in Kenya for 21 days. It was some crazy shit where he was in the jungle with bonobos running around everywhere.

I HIGHLY recommend that you try juice fasting over just fasting.

As long as the body is getting sugar it never really enters true fasting mode where all the repair is supposed to happen. Juice fasting is nothing more than a starvation diet.

This is the understanding that I've gotten from my research as well.

My purpose for giving the fasting a shot was for the detox health benefits.

I started SLOW with just 24 hours water fasts to see I responded to it. I did well enough to give a 48 hour a shot. If that goes well I'll shoot for a 72.

I don't think that "I" would ever have any need or cause to do more than two 72 hour fasts in a 30 day period of time though. (Unless world wide famine hits after 12-21-2012. Lulz)

Are you being supervised or just doing it on your own? How long do you plan to go?

Unsupervised, I wanted to go at least a week, at this point I'm just seeing how far I can go.

Interesting story, it sounds like he was on day 32? And that he was severely underweight?

Exactly. You're supposed to let the digestive system completely stop so that the body can focus its energies elsewhere. "Juice fasting" makes zero sense to me whatsoever.

There are different reasons people fast, one is religion, other is to see if you can survive, either way, I care less,

I eat every 2 hours.
