firstnamelastname.com?

I can't believe some people are still debating this...

If you're lucky enough that your fullname.com is available, what the fuck are you waiting for? It's important to own it for so many reasons...

Some artist has my firstnamelastname.com and when you search for me you get him. I'm okay with that and actually quite pleased. If you do care about this sort of thing then go ahead and register it.

Why the fuck is this even thread-worthy?

I thought it was common knowledge to buy firstnamelastname.com and lastname.com if it is available.

I wish I knew your name so I could reg. it and then sell it back to you for a couple hundy.

are you really debating whether or not to spend $10 a year on 1 domain? I know it starts to add up after awhile but this is your firstnamelastname.com.

I mean rappers are even getting the hang of it:

Damn! .com, .net, .me all gone for firstnamelastname.xxx

Just checked my kids and the .com is available for both of them. I'm thinking I will register both so they can use them as they wish in the future. Anyone else made it a point to secure their kids domains?

My firstnamelastname.com and .net are both registered. I grabbed the .me.

There is also a tranny pornstar with the same name as me, and his Twitter is #1 when someone searches for my name. I need to start ranking my site to push his down.

I also learnt from Melissa Ann Dano that throwing some xrumer links out with my name could be helpful to push my porn star doppleganger down the results. ;)
Embrace it, there's enough FB profiles showing up to demonstrate it's a common name, plus it'll stop people from doing too much research on you in case they get fired for browsing tranny porn at work :D

I share my name with both a very successful rapper and the founder of the KKK, and it's awesome, I could burn down an orphanage and potential employers still wouldn't find out.

EDIT: fuaark, there's now some redneck and his half naked children sleeping in the image results on the frontpage.

I have mine, my kids, and my wife's .com's. Don't use them though.

Given that there was recently a pretty major murder with the same name as me, buying my name in .com was a good call.

Get

firstnamelastname.com
firstname-lastname.com
firstname_lastname.com
firstnamelastname.net
firstname-lastname.net
firstname_lastname.net
firstnamelastnameNews.com
firstnamelastnameUpdates.com
firstnamelastnameBlog.com
etc

Get them as soon as you can to build age. Take different approaches on each one, a few wordpress with articles targeting your name, a few just simple html and whatever else you can think of. Host them at different places/nameservers. Slowly add new content and get a few links to them. The sooner the better, do not duplicate content on them, have a different "theme" or idea for each one.

Build dat dere authority brah :485:

^wondering if there is a legal issue there though. I believe I heard somewhere that you can't own people's names for business reasons (e.g. resell them at 10x the price)

I have firstnamelastname.com and use it primarily for my client-facing work. The results for my name are:

1. the above-mentioned .com
2. twitter
3. facebook
4. pinterest
5. article about me
6. etc

After reading Carter's piece on rep management, I'm springing for all the variations I can think of.

The Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (also known as Truth in Domain Names Act), a United States federal law enacted in 1999, is part of A bill to amend the provisions of title 17, United States Code, and the Communications Act of 1934, relating to copyright licensing and carriage of broadcast signals by satellite (S. 1948). It makes people who register domain names that are either trademarks or individual's names with the sole intent of selling the rights of the domain name to the trademark holder or individual for a profit liable to civil action. It was sponsored by Senator Trent Lott on November 17, 1999, and enacted on November 29 of the same year.

The plot thickens...
