well, guess who? .... Tesla!

I lol'd.

One of the old "the Century" or "modern mechanix" or "popular mechanics", can't remember which, had an interview with edison, where edison claimed to never have exclusive rights to a single patent he created. Every time he created something some other faggots ripped him off and it would take years to settle.

Only money he made was from manufacturing.

Tesla was definitely brilliant, bid on lighting the worlds fair before he'd even created the bulb he was going to use. Got the job, invented the bulb, made enough in a short time to make it a success.

Tesla was a absolute wonder, there may or may not ever be someone like him again in history. Like many of you have said, he lacked in some marketing skills the Edison had.

The biggest problem I see with many of Tesla's inventions is that many tinfoil/conspiracy theorist types have latched onto him in a sort of "This man solved all of mankind's problems, but the evil big government/big corporations/organized religion/ect killed him because he was going to free everyone. I've seen many of his ideas replicated and they just don't work as well as people could hope. Yeah, alot of his stuff was awesome, however some of it was not, and people seem to think that someone somewhere is keeping a vault full of his magical inventions away from the public because it would destroy everyone.

The thing is, there are MANY smart people in the world. Yeah, many governments and ideologies love to try and limit the resourcefulness of people, yet people still create amazing and awesome things.

I'm curious, with all of the money and brainpower here on wickedfire why someone hasn't taken that money and done something really amazing with it, rather than build a bunch of websites or on hookers & blow in some southeast Asian country.

Seen this before, so I didn't re-read, but the bit about ball lightning isn't correct. Modern scientists have produced what they believe to have the same characteristics as ball lightning, and bigger than Tesla produced.

Not discounting his work, just saying there's innacuracies in the OP.

Considering he was making shit in the 1890's, at the time even a little bit was huge.

He had wireless technology, controlling remote control boats.

Earthquake generator, using vibrations.

Tesla coil, still used today.

Transformers, used today.

Dynamo.

AC current, he pioneered.

Flourescent bulbs, still used today.

There are pictures of famous people, Mark Twain and others holding his glass "flourescent" lights that are being illuminated wirelessly.

In the 1890's, if you saw a glass jar lighting up wirelessly it would have been pure magic, and I imagine the description at the time might be more extreme than we'd consider today, but it was still revolutionary. He even got credit for the radio after he died. Though we attribute that invention to someone else.

Saddest thing is I never heard about Tesla until after graduating high school. What the fuck.

He also described a really weak solar panel. Putting a plate underground and above ground and there was some difference in energy to be gained.

I want to be as smart as Tesla, I don't want to be like him.

If I were as smart as Tesla, I'll use that earth quake generator to threaten IRS to fuck off ignore my tax return.
