Anyone try Cannabidol for depression or anxiety?

Fuck Psychiatrist.

Never solved my problems.

I told my parents I had no problems.

They told me being gay is a problem.

Fuck Psychiatrist.

Pardon me, but don't normal folk call this "weed"?

Where to buy it? Any high school kid can hook you up.

I have to say though, Sativex sounds like something I would... like to try. Mouth spray - genious!

No, it's absolutely not weed. THC (tetrahydrocannabidol) is the stuff that makes you high, it's actually a psycotic which isn't very smart for people suffering mental illness. Cannabidol is the counter-active drug in weed, which I assume negates some of the THC. Nature is clever that way.

It's also not for me but my brother, to get him off some of these meds with shitty side effects.

Cannabidiol has shown to decrease activity of the limbic system[11] and to decrease social isolation induced by THC.[12] It's also shown that Cannabidiol reduces anxiety in social anxiety disorder. [13] [14] In April 2005, Canadian authorities approved the marketing of Sativex, a mouth spray for multiple sclerosis to alleviate pain. Sativex contains tetrahydrocannabinol together with cannabidiol. It is marketed in Canada by GW Pharmaceuticals.
In 1985 a single case study suggested that CBD may be effective in the management of levodopa-induced dyskinesia in a Parkinson's Disease patient.[15]
Studies have shown that CBD may reduce schizophrenic symptoms in patients, likely due to their apparent ability to stabilize disrupted or disabled NMDA receptor pathways in the brain, which are shared and sometimes contested by norepinephrine and GABA.[6][16] Leweke et al. performed a double blind, 4 week, explorative controlled clinical trial to compare the effects of purified cannabidiol and the atypical antipsychotic amisulpride on improving the symptoms of schizophrenia in 42 patients with acute paranoid schizophrenia. Both treatments were associated with a significant decrease of psychotic symptoms after 2 and 4 weeks as assessed by Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale. While there was no statistical difference between the two treatment groups, cannabidiol induced significantly fewer side effects (extrapyramidal symptoms, increase in prolactin, weight gain) when compared to amisulpride.[17]

Seems legit?

then definitely go to a psychiatrist with your bro and discuss the side effects, they spend all day every day dealing with these drugs, self medicating for yourself or others is not a smart idea if they're depressed.

He's not depressed but has bouts of schizophrenia. The anti-depressants are mild, but the anti-phsycotics are not fun. They have very serious side effects that could potentially kill him. Morbidity is significantly higher with these drugs and they greatly impair cognitive function. But at the same time, they do keep symptoms in check. Very few psyciatrists are going to agree to using a non-legal drug to test unfortunately even though the benefits have been documented.

Rusvik.

They are illegal for a reason.

Sure, weed is an exception, but that is more governmental than anything else. I'm sure capitalism shines very brightly in pharmaceutical companies. If a drug is to be made that aids/benefits someone, it will be made. Maybe not by company X who is making a competing drug, but you can bet your fucking left testicle that if company Y sees company X making money, they will come right in to grab a bit of it.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother, and maybe your psychiatrist is twat but to suggest you want to find an illegal substances and start doing clinical trials on him is completely ludicrous. If anything, tell him you got it and then give him a sugar pill.

That's actually BS. Studies done by both the UK drugs board and the Holland drugs board both found that it doesn't bring on Schizophrenia, Psychosis, or Depression. The reason that it's often associated with those things is because generally, those things show themselves in peoples' teenage years, which is generally the same time that people first smoke cannabis. So, by unrelated coincidence, people assume that correlation = causation.

then he should be regularly working with a psychiatrist! Do not for one second think you can dabble in self-medicating for schizophrenia as that is a risk for both him and possibly others. I realize that anti-psychotics can have terrible side effects but again, discuss this with the doc as they will be able to help the best. The side effects are gnarly because the conditions they're treating are gnarly.

You can discuss illicit drugs with a psychiatrist, they aren't going to handcuff you and take you downtown. I realize you care for your brother but really, a professional psychiatrist is a must in this situation.

I didn't say that either and psychiatrists don't know much about it either. But the high of cannabis is probably cause by stimulation of the same receptors which are affected (not nessecarily the source) of a real psychosis. So the cannabidol acts as the 'grounder' in weed as a counteract to the THC. That doesn't mean THC causes psycosis.

Trust me, there have been plenty of psyciatrists and their results have been less than stellar. They're mostly useless besides acting as vendors of anti-psycotic medicine. Some of them have clear sociopathic tendencies and no empathy.

Yes, schizophrenia can be quite bad, but it's certainly not made any better by doctors treating patients like retards and criminals. There is much more to recovery than drugs, but most psyciatrists are solely focused on limiting symptoms rather than actually trying to understand the condition or teaching methods to deal with the delusions.

All in all, I think the major problem for schizophreniacs is societies refusal to deal with people who are strange. The average joe avoids mentally ill people like they have the plague, contributing to the feeling of isolation and despair.

I wish I had enough money for a holistic full time facility for some time, but that kind of treatment is really expensive.

Looks interesting, I'd say maybe find a way to purchase a strain of marijuana that's high in CBD and low in THC content. Start with one toke and see if it helps. Not sure if you have access to a variety of strains though, so that could be a problem. I've also read that hemp oil contains CBD, so maybe grab some of that.

I used to work with a guy who was schizophrenic and he'd go smoke a joint every work break, said it helped with his symptoms. Not sure how that works, because I usually freak out when smoking. Might have had something to do with the CBD vs THC ratios.

look for sliding scale psychologists (therapists) who specialize in schizophrenia. Unfortunately the way you describe psychiatrists is accurate, they are drug-centric and don't do much therapy or getting to know their patients. That's the psychologist's job. That doesn't make psychiatrists bad though; their role is to provide medications that will help.

The anti-psychotics give you a canvas to work with, and therapy can help with working through things once the psychosis is controlled. It can be pricey but if it makes your bro functional and happy again, it's worth it.

TLDR but you should try an alcohol extract like the healing one that's high in CBD and close to none THC. The psychoactive effects of the small amount of THC will be completely blocked by the CBD anyway.

It's not a psychoactive high, much more of a subtle feeling of clarity and relaxation. PM me if you want to talk about it more, can tell you more about the products available in California.
