I think he was just one of those whale astronomer/geometers who were too curious and had to take a closer look. Most whales are blue-collar workers and don't have time for such leisure activities. Glad to see the division of labor is helping to free a portion of the whale society from the confines, although I hate to see what it's doing to their middle class.
