Jimmy Wales is spamming our inboxes again...

Don't get me wrong, I fucking LOVE Wikipedia and think it's one of the greatest things that ever happened to the internet, but I hate being spammed by Jimmy Wales twice a year begging me to give him money, especially since I'm already donating monthly!

Wouldn't it solve all their problems if they stuck 1 skinny ad banner on top of the site? Would visitors really mind? We already see ads everywhere. What difference would it make? I'd rather that than being spammed or seeing his appeal take half of the screen when I want to read an article.

your complaining about twice a year? I can understand twice a week, maybe twice a month but this is only 2 times in 365 days. Is that even considered spam?

The thing that does get annoying is the larger notices and colors at the top like lexicon said. But I can't complain, I use it all the time for free.
 
If it didn't exist my life wouldn't change. I also think Googipedia would fill the void if Jimbo had to stop paying for teh interwebz.

Stop acting like a bellend and Just stick a fucking banner up top, Jimmy. How is your mug that much better?
 
I donate to Wikipedia every chance I get but for fuck's sake, an innocuous ad is much less obtrusive than Jimmy's incessant pleas.

Having that said, everyone reading this should donate to Wikipedia right now. With all the trash that the members of this forum contribute to the internet, I think the world's most valuable website could use your $5.

Jimmy is a silly willy. he should put a banner in the header of Wikipedia for 48 hours. The revenue generated would be more than enough to cover all expenses for 1-2 years.

PS. I donated $40 wiki a week or so ago.

See that's the thing, there's absolutely nothing wrong with monetizing something with such tremendous value. It's not like people will stop using Wikipedia if he sticks a banner on top. Hell they can even push offers for all I care, that'll make them enough money to hire PhDs and competent people to improve the encyclopaedia's accuracy.
