Perhaps something happened after 1993 that contributed to the halving of gun homicide in this country?

Handguns account for 96% of gun related homicides, so the assault weapon ban had no effect. Plus, the ban ended almost 10 years ago and violent crime rates have continued to go down.

Do you guys even realize that only a few hundred homicides every year are caused by rifles, and only a percentage of those are by so-called "assault weapons"? It's weird to see otherwise intelligent people react so emotionally that their faculties of logic completely fail them.

We had over 400 homicides in Detroit last year, care to guess how many were caused by assault weapons?

And many of those few deaths are from gangbangers and law enforcement.
 
The more gun laws they pass the more dangerous the make the country, ask Chicago who has a gun ban yet had more gun deaths then collation did in Afghanistan.

You interfere with peoples right to protect there self by obtaining guns the legal way all this does is have law Bidding citizens holding there dick when faced with a Criminal who bought his gun Illegally.

Like me you were probably watching the president’s gun control speech today. Was told this morning the presentation today was a revised version that was completed just last night after a bunch of back and forth between the White House and Senate leaders. Guessing that would be Harry Reid mostly. Last week the president was ready to go all in on the executive order scenario. Confiscation was going to be in play. Then the backlash came and it forced Obama to back off. He didn’t want to but after Reid said it was a no go, and the NRA was preparing to go to war with the White House, the president was given a revised script and that is what we heard this morning. You could tell too. Obama stumbled over the words more than usual. He didn’t have the time to prep the script like he normally does. Probably fuming he was forced to read the new version also.

This time WE WON and OBAMA LOST.

How many times do I have to say I am not in support of a total assault rifle ban before you read it?

My only argument is and has been that reasonable, logical legislation regulating trade and sale can decrease violent gun crime. That does NOT mean I support any bans. The assumed polarization of this debate is a huge part of the problem.

I think most people here don't understand that playing devil's advocate is one of my favorite things in the world and because of that feel a need to teach me a lesson. Which is fine I suppose.

Sheriffs Around the Country Say They Won’t Enforce Unconstitutional Gun Control Laws

Reason 24/7 noted a sheriff in Kentucky and two in Oregon who said this week they wouldn’t enforce any unconstitutional gun control measures coming from the feds. NBC News found the trend, reporting:
Police chiefs from around the country, who are appointed not elected, were on hand in Washington to support the president’s announcement. But a number of sheriffs, many of whom must run for office, were vocal in their opposition…

Dudley Brown, founder of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, which considers the National Rifle Association too weak on gun rights, said he has gotten calls from other sheriffs around the country who say they won't cooperate with the feds.

"We'll see how many of them have the courage to do it," he said.​

(CNN) -- At least four people -- three in North Carolina and one in Indiana -- were injured after weapons went off at gun shows Saturday, officials said, at a time when there's been renewed discussion about private gun sales at such shows.

Dixie Gun and Knife Show attendees bolted, with at least one woman wiping out in the frenetic scene, after gunfire rang out around 1 p.m., as seen on video captured by CNN affiliate WRAL.

Police later explained that a a 36-year-old man from Wilmington, North Carolina, was unfastening the case of his 12-gauge shotgun on a table near the show entrance when it accidentally discharged. The man planned to sell the shotgun at the show.

The bird shot ended up injuring three people. One was a sheriff's deputy, who suffered a slight injury to his hand and was treated and released at a local hospital before returning immediately to work, said Joel Keith, chief of police of the North Carolina State Fair.

A 54-year-old woman from Benson, North Carolina, was being treated a wound to her right torso at a local hospital, and a 50-year-old man from Durham, North Carolina, was treated for an injured left hand, Keith told reporters.

"I want to emphasize that this is an accident," Keith said.

That said, Wake County sheriff's investigators and the local prosecutor will determine whether to file charges against the gun's owner, authorities said.

Sheriff Donnie Harrison said he was unsure whether it was legal to bring a loaded gun on state fairgrounds. However, when the state fair is held in October, it is illegal to bring a loaded gun to the fairground because of the large crowds, authorities said.

"This is state property. That's something we're looking into," Harrison told reporters. "It's early right now."

The shooting prompted police to ban any private gun sales -- in which visitors bring their firearms to sell at the gun show -- for the remainder of the two-day show, which concludes Sunday, Keith said. He added there wouldn't be any private gun sales on fairgrounds for the indefinite future.
