Lions drafted a guy that decided to play football only because he got cut from the basketball team. Fuck.
Cooper is going to be an all pro for a decade and he is the best fit for the Cards at their weakest position on the line. Also, when you trade for an AARP member that can't outmaneuver an old lady in a wheelchair for a QB you had better damn well find a good pass protector to help keep him upright otherwise you will end up with the same QB disaster that the had last season.
They may have been holding out to see if another team would make a good offer to deal their pick.
I'm sure he's a great player, but no one drafts an OG at #7. It's one of the easiest positions to find and usually you can pick up a project in the 4th round and groom him to be solid. Hell, we got J.R. Sweezy in the 6th round last year, a guy with a great upside and he ended up starting half the time.
Unless you think you're getting the next Steve Hutchinson, you don't draft an OG before the end of the 1st round. I would've gambled on a DE or WR instead. Get a playmaker when you pick in the top 10 or at least a great OT.
Cooper was a great pick, Lions should have grabbed him at 5. He's a mauler with a bad attitude who can play guard and center. Being able to run up the gut with impunity hides a lot of other weaknesses, ie Shaun Alexander behind Hutch for positive yards most plays prevented a lot of 3rd and long Hasselbeck turnovers and led to a SB appearance.
Who cares where you take him, if you get one of the best players in the draft who will be a 10 year All Pro, just plug him in. Not like there were any DE or WR worth taking that high anyway. Fucking Lions.
Oh, and Minnesota, how about you trade Harvin, your 2nd, your 3rd, your 4th and your 7th for a rookie WR (who could have been had the next round anyway), a rookie DB who will never be a shutdown corner, a 7th and 4th next year. Quality. LOL. If only they'd drafted Te'o too...

In many cases I would agree with that assessment, but this is not a typical draft. You get a potential 10 year all pro with Larry Allen type skills that fills your biggest need. When DE and WR are 2 of your strengths there is no real need to draft a project that may start in a couple of years. The Cardinals are not good enough to draft for depth when they need starters.
You can certainly make an argument for the players that were drafted before Cooper, but they were no longer available.

The rich get richer. The only thing dumber than the Broncos passing on Lacy to take Ball is that Buffalo wasted a first rounder on the 5th best QB in the draft and could have drafted him in the 4th or 5th round.
