Do I give up on Roku?

so apparently due to the size of my media library it took like 6 hours to index it with plex. I am assuming this was also the reason for all the crashing I had. Now that it's all up and running it seems to be pretty slick. Plex's forum's are pretty much a joke. No where that I could find even suggested my experience was possible. Instead they all end in "upload your crash dump" and then they never reply as to the solution (reason why I am pointing it out now)

Time will tell but I think I might like this thing after all.


Edit: Any recommendations on any good "free" channels?

I've got 6 TB of shit and never had it take longer than an hour.

Do you have a datacenter? lol

Maybe a. TB. It seemed a bit rediculus. Tried updating to add a simple movie and it crashed again. I just don't get it. This thing is more finicky than a woman. This things got another 48 hours before I kill it and go back to my trusty xbmc where it updates in seconds. The worst part is the thousands of unsolved posts in their forum.
 
Get PlayOn. It works with ESPN/ESPN3 and provides streams directly from Hulu and a number of other sites.

What hardware are you using? I have an old core 2 duo I'm going to setup with windows 8 and plex when I move this month, curious what specs your system is

Technically you can... but the only plugin I've tried for live major networks is Firstrow, and the quality isn't usable. ESPN3 streams in HD. I don't know about getting out of network NFL games, I'm sure there is a way if you're dedicated enough. As far as CBS/FOX, those are HD OTA channels, so why would you want to stream them?

Server is running on 120gb SSD
Media on 1tb sata (new drive almost nothing on it)
Media on 750gb sata (primary media drive 600gb of media)
16gb ram
Amd dual core unlocked to add 3rd core

System resources (cpu &ram) run at about 1/3 capacity so its not like there isn't plenty of HP. I can run the most intensive programs on the market without so much as a hiccup. But this plex is perplexing



Edit: I'll give playon a try. I remember I used that years ago (until my Xbox got banned lol)
 
Another reason to make it work with Roku; you can telnet into it to issue commands. Way handy, if like me you run one in the office for background noise while you work.

I have had great luck with these guys: free-tv-video-online.me

The movshare and vidbull feeds seem to work best imho, best experience is with Chrome and Adblocker running.

I could do this with my WDTV. The main reason I want to make this work is for the speed and interface.
 
Didn't read most of the the thread...why don't you get a router that supports an external hard drive and simply install XBMC on it and have media server access across anywhere in your house on multiple devices?

^This one's not out yet, but I have a NEOX5. Runs XBMC, runs Plex, runs all my android apps. With XBMC and using the icefilms and 1channel plugins, I can pretty much stream any TV show or movie I care to watch - not 100% HD and some movies are cams and other shit but the more popular ones are at least DVD rips. It's a little hands-on though, and rooting is a must but not difficult. YMMV, however I'm not starting threads like this anyway.
 
I use an apple TV for this without any issues. I have a spare mac set up as a media computer. I have my iphone setup so I go to a nzb site on it and when I find a movie or show I want I click on it and it downloads to my media computer. I then hit play on my iphone and airplay it on my tv flawlessly using streamtome. If it is in a random video format I use an app called beamer where you just drag the video file onto the beamer box and it instantly streams on apple tv. you can even use the remote to rewind/fastforward.

I also use my phone to go to the sites barwo.com and iseri.es which have an insane amount of movies/shows to stream onto phone. They are all large size so I can stream it instantly to the apple tv in amazing quality even on a 55"

I very rarely use my cable anymore.
