Just curious..

If you're a link buyer, do you buy for the sake of PageRank/Authority or Traffic primarily?

And how much do you spend on avg per site per niche?

I more do link exchanges for PageRank, and then I buy traffic.

Even though I know its worth it if you buy the right link, I have trouble justifying buying a link that won't supply me with traffic.

I don't buy for traffic or PR. I buy for authority & serp increases on that particular keyword/niche.

I've spent anywhere from $250 - $5000 on a site (the latter being on sites in the financial sector). But I usually see a good return on spend.

How do you measure for authority then?

I buy the occasional $1 link... for no apparent reason.

I don't buy links for PR or traffic, I just exchange links or try and get free one way links to improve my SERP rankings :)

I'm more interested in the traffic. I won't buy a link if the placement is horrible, even with high PR. I just got a PR5 annual link for $100 on a highly targeted page and the placement rocks.

Single expenditures usually run under $100 but many of these buys feel like dinking around. The $100-$300 league is where I want to be.

I am starting to look longterm and trying to build myself up with PR now. Bluehatseo has taught me a lot.

The trouble with buying links for outright traffic is that it's hard to judge the net annual / monthly CPC if there's no supplemental verification (such as like a Blogads counter or a TLA ranking, etc). Add in the magic X-Factor of "Authority" value and eventually these transactions start to look worthwhile, especially if you control the link destination, phrasing, and placement. Purely for traffic is a gamble, and purely for Authority is too vague. Can't put "authority value" as a line item on a cost-benefits spreadsheet.

For me I primarily go for traffic...because the more the traffic the high percentage of conversion.... and PR will just follow...:D

Authority/SERPs as well.

I just spent about $200 on a financial site but I realized that's not going to be even CLOSE to enough.
