I found this article challenging because some (most) of it applies to me. Be interested in any comments (enlightened or otherwise).

6 Harsh Truths That Will Make You a Better Person | Cracked.com

TL;DR version ...

"Name five impressive things about yourself. Write them down or just shout them out loud to the room. But here's the catch -- you're not allowed to list anything you are (i.e., I'm a nice guy, I'm honest), but instead can only list things that you do (i.e., I just won a national chess tournament, I make the best chili in Massachusetts). If you found that difficult, well, this is for you, and you are going to fucking hate hearing it. "

Gotta disagree with #5. Who the hell do you think is currently in power right now, sitting in chairs within legislatures, big banks, hedge funds, etc.? Oh right, the free love, sex, drugs, and rock and roll hippies of the 70s.

Did you read the article ?

Good stuff.

Reminded me of the old Jim Rohn's philosophy.

I've found #1 to be true for me.

For some reason it's super easy to do self-destructive shit, but twice as difficult to do anything that improves.

The majority of people are hard-wired for self-destruction.

I agree with his main points.

What I wonder is, how many people does this article impact that believe in opposing opinions?

I can see how it motivates people who already prescribe to most of those thoughts. I came to most of these conclusions on my own through life-based epiphanies and not articles or conversations.

The problem is the article is extolling a rationalistic positivist way of looking at the world that is suited for a corporate drone. i want to be irrational, stupid ,and glib. Life is more enjoyable that way.

Thanks, I needed this a lot. The article doesn't really talk about anything "new," but it lights a fire under my ass. Sometimes a little honest abuse goes a long way

Me rikey!

This one sentence is why most people in our industry fail!

"People quit because it takes too long to see results, because they can't figure out that the process is the result."

Nice share Wez! All about accountability and manning up.

"It's so much easier to just sit back and criticize other people's creations. This movie is stupid. That couple's kids are brats. That other couple's relationship is a mess. That rich guy is shallow. This restaurant sucks. This Internet writer is an asshole. I'd better leave a mean comment demanding that the website fire him. See, I created something.
Oh, wait, did I forget to mention that part? Yeah, whatever you try to build or create -- be it a poem, or a new skill, or a new relationship -- you will find yourself immediately surrounded by non-creators who trash it. Maybe not to your face, but they'll do it. Your drunk friends do not want you to get sober. Your fat friends do not want you to start a fitness regimen. Your jobless friends do not want to see you embark on a career.
Just remember, they're only expressing their own fear, since trashing other people's work is another excuse to do nothing"

This ^^. It sucks to realize that a large portion of your friends/family would rather you stay put, status quo. I cut a lot of nay-sayers out of my life to start my business. Cold, dead hands want to drag you back down to the abyss. Again, awesome share!!

You think they got there by continuing to espouse that feel-good bullshit, or by cashing in and joining the real world?

They got there by espousing that feel-good bullshit until enough people bought into it, and then cashing in and joining the real world

I don't know, I can't really think of a single boomer politico or businessman that remained true to their hippy value system in any material way. I can't distinguish them from anybody else really.
