I'm anticipating 60% of my short term web assets to be wiped out. Last year it was ~85%. I'm completely happy with a 25% decrease, and at least this year I'm not being a blind optimistic sheeple thinking that my sites are going to last through an update.
This will be indeed be exciting. Last year this cut down on the SEO population and thus the competition tenfold.
You may call me too optimistic but I expect Google to restore my rankings from a year ago by giving exceptional value to spam networks links.
People aren't scared anymore because Penguin 1.0 already improved everyone's anus elasticity by 75%.
Fuck SEO. I'll keep adding articles on my authority site + upgrading user experience, but I'm done trying to buy links. I'mma wait 2+ months before I do ANY off-site SEO.

I have had great success not doing any off site at all.
This is for the long tails though, but just a perfectly optimized site will rank perfectly well without it.
I guess Matt will have to be careful with this one.
Intended or not, first Penguin moved many SEOs into white hat world.
If those guys don't see a reward after a year of hard work and get nuked again despite all the effort they will back to spam again.
Not to mention the fact that the last Penguin didn't necessary improved search results.
