They're lucky any business has the guts to run a fast food place in their city. It must be one endless headache and now this. It will end when they realize they won't be able to eat at Popeye's or KFC if they're all on strike. I'd rather shut my business down than deal with a union.

1. Strikes generally only work when the barrier to entry on the job is high enough so that your position can't be easily filled.
2. We're still in the midst of one of the worst recessions and highest unemployment in American history. For 400+ people that went on strike, I imagine they got 4,000+ applications.
Inb4 90% of those 400 reapply within a month.

$28,80/year is really not that much... Assuming they work 40 hours, which most won't..
But in reality, it should be $10/hr.. Let's be real.. Any adult working at McDonalds can only blame themselves.. Give those jobs to high school kids/college kids. No reason any adult should be complaining about a low wage, at a low value job, when they can.. I don't know.. Perhaps, find a better job after what like 10-30 years of working..?

Most people working fast food jobs are bringing home less than $10,000/year.
Pretty hard to afford training/school/living expenses/gas/insurance (many fast food chains don't offer it)/etc off $10k/y

Totally agree with that.. But there's plenty of options to go for that don't cost money.. $20/M internet, or the library.. Submit job applications, work in retail, office asst, or as a server at a few dollars more an hour.. Progress to retail store manager, office manager, or while serving move up restaurants to nicer places ($15+/hr in tips).. Or become Ast. Manager, etc.
I mean how can anyone not do this?... Food stamps, Gov housing, Welfare check, etc. All of the basics get covered for the most part, shit there's even a free cell phone to call jobs.. Aren't there free bus tokens too?

Sure it's going to be horrible for quite a bit, but why stay stuck in that life.. I mean even here in IM, anyone can throw up a website for $20/year? Go home write content, (or sell it), that's 365 articles after a year... Surely you're going to get some traffic off that and at least make $500-2K (after a year).. ~$5/day? Enough to pay for a cheap car, etc. or build some small savings to make the transition.. Edit: Scratch that, 365 days worth of articles, $10/day = $3,650.. Not bad for writing ONE 1,000 word article every night at home after work..
No, I see what you're saying. One of my family members is district manager for a chain here in the midwest, so I've met plenty of their employees and the older people in these positions are pretty much just stuck without a massive Tony Robbins intervention while they attempt to build wealth off their disposable income of $20/month.
Food stamps, welfare, etc is harder to get now than it's ever been. I don't know the specifics behind it, but I've heard some real horror stories of people who clearly need it and they simply can't get approved due to all the bs.
Not trying to argue with you, but I'm just saying that it can be really difficult to get out of that low-wage trap once you're in it, not everyone is in those types of jobs for multiple years because they are lazy.
