Problems in the Web Design Industry

Web Design is much like any other craftsman industry. There are a few that are great and most suck and don't make much. It's just being a blacksmith on a computer. And rather then a hammer you use a keyboard.

Ah what's so ironic is that the blacksmith, in this case, has the crappiest looking sword I've seen in a while. I like ugly sites as they make money bottom-line. A lot of times a crappy looking sites will out perform a nice site. This has been documented a thousand times. And rather then saying that sites "should" have this and that. I think it's horse shit without testing. I've seen ToS, Privacy Policy Verbage and badges improve conversion and decease conversions.

In the end we're marketers here and for marketers it's about money. Things are judged on the basis of how much they make and their ROI. And really this has little, if nothing to do with the prettiness of a site. It has to do with TESTING!

Nothing worse then a perfectly constructed and designed site that doesn't make a dime.

Hmm, well from a designer's perspective I'm likely to say an ugly as shit layout that doesn't make a dime, is a bit worse. Then again, if you didn't spend hardly anything on design, then I suppose it's easy come, easy go. On the other hand, with a well designed site you have more possibilities within ad integration, particularly with adsense and other cpc ads.

I suppose it's a catch 22 and also depends what your niche is.

Sorry, but this article is pure trash. I'd make some clever counter points but I don't want to put more effort in a rebuttal than the 10 minutes it took to throw together the original article.

Also, I believe that ugly sites don't make money, effective sites do. If you took that same crappy design and made it pretty (keeping the general layout and elements the same) it would do better.

Um, is this site an example of good design? Or are you trying to demonstrate the distracting effects of a diagonal striped background on the readability of the page? I'm confused.

The irony of that article, with all the mistakes and poor design, is overwhelming. It took me approximately 10 seconds to find two grammar mistakes, even through the glaring stripes behind the text.

Anybody that reads this post and doesn't feel at least a little bit dumber after should be shot.

"Web design is going down hill man, I know this because I looked at all the rough drafts that people posted for critiques in web design forums and I PERSONALLY only thought like 5 of them were cool."

Interesting douche like article, as a professional designer (professional as in I make a ridiculous amount of money from design) I have to conclude that you are a 13 year old girl who got out bid by some guy in Vietnam.

Walk it off, you pussy.

"The use of fonts are bad"

Yeah, damn those fonts. Never did any good for anyone.
