In Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots, Team Rainbow faces a new and very real threat called the “True Patriots,” a highly-trained, well-organized revolutionary group that claim the American government is irrevocably corrupted by greedy politicians and corporate special interests. The True Patriots will do whatever it takes to reclaim their country. Playing as Rainbow, players will face critical scenarios that will require them to make tough ethical decisions in order to stop this new breed of terrorists.

From the December 2011 issue of Game Informer:
“Americans are angry and why shouldn’t they be? With an exponentially expanding national debt, crippling foreclosures, corporate bailouts, degrading infrastructure, dwindling job market and widening income gap between the haves and have-nots, it’s getting harder to believe politicians when they speak of American exceptionalism as if it were a fundamental truth.
“In response to gradual erosion of our beloved nation, resentful citizens of all kinds of political backgrounds are rising up in the form of new political movements like the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street.”

“In 2009, the Southern Poverty Law Center reported a massive resurgence in anti-government paramilitary groups, which have jumped from 43 militias in 2007 to nearly 300 in 2010. The sudden surge has captured the attention of the Department of Homeland Security, NSA, CIA, and FBI, who all view these groups as a real threat to the stability of the nation. Moreover, many of these disenfranchised groups frequently put their members through intense military training exercises – for what, no one knows.”

So I guess people who are concerned about the direction of the US are the new threat.

Sounds exactly like the definition of terrorism:

Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts which are intended to create fear (terror); are perpetrated for a religious, political, or ideological goal; and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants (civilians). Some definitions now include acts of unlawful violence and war. The use of similar tactics by criminal organizations for protection rackets or to enforce a code of silence is usually not labeled terrorism, though these same actions may be labeled terrorism when done by a politically motivated group.

Yeah, patriotic groups willing to use armed resistance at some point against an oppressive government have long been labeled as terrorists.. nothing new here.

Edit: All that aside, that game looks pretty kick ass. I would definitely play it if I still played video games.

Exactly the point. The administration and it's agency's are shifting their focus from "Brown people" in the "sand" and defining the new face of terror. The shift is to those born and raised american's with no history of violence or criminal behavior. The new face of terror are millions of American's who are upset with the .gov having its tentacles wrapped around America. Just watch over the next year to 5 years. You will increasingly see movies and tv shows aimed at "stopping" those groups. When in reality those "groups" aren't really groups at all. They are just american's voicing their distaste for the tyranny. Movies will no longer be based at going after the evil brown people in the sand.

Don't be to quick to dismiss this. It wont be long before the .gov considers all of it's citizens a threat.

I didn't dismiss anything, I was just pointing out that terrorists aren't always "brown people in the sand."

Terrorists instill fear and usually have an ideological or political motive. A bunch of dudes with machine guns marching down my street in protest of the government would scare the living fuck out of me. This is, by definition, terrorism.

You just described the US army in IRAQ circa 2002.

What acts of terror have the Tea Party groups been involved in? I mean, I get the political part of the definition, but where are the actual terror attacks that would be required to, oh I don't know, make them terrorists?

I was talking about the video game that OP started the thread about. A video game about Tea Party-like domestic terrorists. The "bad guys" in this video game are exactly terrorists.

I think his point was more about the fact that a group of non-terrorists like the Tea Party who happen to be against the current administration is even being portrayed as terrorists in the first place. Maybe I'm reading too much into it though.

You definitely are because the group in this game is marching around with machine guns and presumably actively physically attacking the government, something the Tea Partiers have not done to my knowledge. They are not the same things, just similar (or arguably one is the extension of the other).

UG was on the right path as to my line of thinking. The question is why did they choose to use this particular group in the first place? The point is the .gov is changing who it considers to be a threat. They are getting the public acclimated to the idea that the new face of terror is homegrown "extremist". All the while it some may argue that the so called "extremist" have never even committed an act of terror on US soil. Whether you think that or not, it cant be argued that the "libertarian" or Tea Party movement has been villainized and demonized over the last couple years. And the sentiment is growing daily. And the mainstream media, with it's WH talking points have brainwashed many into believing these very people are bad.

And 1 quick question. Why doesn't it bother you when a gang of men play dress up donning military uniforms and weaponry and march down the street? Claiming to Protect and to Serve. All while locking up more of it's citizens than any country on the planet. That's doesn't bother you?

It wont be long before the .gov considers all of it's citizens a threat.

Are ya'll ready for the Gov's new Anal Probe Trackers?
I didn't laugh because I thought he was paranoid.

I laughed because I thought he was being naive. Everyone who thinks freely is a threat to the establishment.

John Lennon said:
As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty-odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be

There's room at the top they're telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill

A working class hero is something to be
If you want to be a hero well just follow me

john lennon's message can be boiled down in that last line:

"If you want to be a hero well just follow me"

fucking egomaniac. we don't want to be like you, john. you were a political freak who thought politics was more important than music, and it got you killed. thanks for the life advice.

Dear establishment,

You all fucking suck and I hope one day America wakes up and realizes how shitty you are. Don't label me a terrorist when you douchebags are the real terrorists, including you Obama.

Much Hate,
Jeffrey

History repeats itself. Where have you been bro ?
