I've decided to ditch my iphone for a Samsung Galaxy S4, after many years of faithful iPhone service. I've never been an Apple fanboy per say, but I've always like the simplicity of the products. I've had unlocked/jailbroken iphones with t-mobile since the 3G came out so making the switch is going to be odd, but my wife has had several of the Samsung models, and they're pretty cool. Looking forward to checking out some of the stuff the Samsung can do that the iPhone can't. Anyone have an S4 and what do you like most about them?

What's not to like?

Navigation and Maps included.
Removable battery and storage.
Swype keyboard.
Don't have to use iTunes to put music on my phone, drag and drop - bitch!

Not much you can't do that and iPhone could, at least with 3rd party apps.

Oh yeah I'm also loving the battery life on the S4 vs my last android phone. Under my normall usage, which arguably isn't that much, I can go ~5 days without a charge. Which is a huge jump over ~2 with my last phone. I remember a few years ago when I had my first smart phone, an iPhone 3, and I remember having to charge that thing like every day.

iPhone5 is still like that if you use Whatsapp or Skype much.

It's not a problem for me as I'm not far from a charger on any normal day, but for travelling or anything like that it won't be my phone of choice.

Good move. Check out the S4 forum on XDA Developers. Get an app like Tasker or MacroDroid and automate shit. Send me a sack shot.

Are you sure you want to pick the S4 over the HTC One ?

Yes. As much as I want to love the HTC One because it really looks and feels like a quality piece of kit, by most accounts the battery life is abysmal and it is not user replaceable. It also has no SD card slot, unless you can get your hands on the Chinese version. It doesn't have the same level of hardware features the Galaxy S4 has. It's also impossible to service yourself (ie. replace the screen or battery) HTC One Teardown - iFixit

The HTC One scores a 1/10 whereas the S4 scores an 8/10 on their scale.

I brought that up in the original HTC One thread. However it seems for a lot of people they couldn't care less. Some of the earlier iPhones where hard to repair as well and it still sold well.

I think it'll be interesting to see if HTC even sticks around, they where basically going out of business not that long ago, and the HTC One might have bought them some time.

I just went from an iPhone 5 to HTC One and I have been using it for over a week, ill be returning it to go back to the iPhone.

How do you guys get music from itunes on your s4? Literally just drag and drop? No app needed or software to transfer music over from itunes?

If you are on OS X you need the Android File Transfer program. Shocking, I know, Apple doesn't support Android file transfer. Windows I think you need to install the Samsung USB drivers, but that's pretty standard for just about every device out there. Linux it should just work.

Just plug it in to your computer, navigate to your phone storage, open your iTunes media folder, copy pasta, point your music app at the music folder you put everything in.

Other than swype, the keyboard is sub par and you cant use swype for everything.

Even though you dont have to use it, I hate the stream thing on the home screen and also how it pulls FB pictures into your gallery - if I wanted to see FB pictures I would go on FB...

The touch screen sensitivity feels a little off, while im scrolling the phone will assume im trying to click on something when im not.

Its too big to use with one hand or maybe I just have the hands of an infant?

I find the UI much cleaner and easier to use on the iPhone.

Overall I find the iPhone to be a more complete and polished device.

I got the S4. Not a big fan. Going to go back to iPhone. Pain in the ass with file transfers, keyboard sucks, videos aren't as good as the 5. I guess if I spent time learning everything I would like it, but I just like how simple iPhones are to use.

I mentioned it because you mentioned it. Repairability is one thing, but the lack of expandable memory is the biggest showstopper for me.

I'm not a smartphone nut, but I'm seriously considering dropping the iPhone if the new OS doesn't deliver. I've avoided the galaxy phones due to their size...they're a bit too big for my liking. However, the iPhone 5 is seriously lacking imo. Might be time for a change.

Define "abysmal"

1 full charge = 36 hours standby + 8 hours talk time + 2 hours web + 2 hours video

HTC One battery life test is complete, breakdown is inside - GSMArena Blog

we ran non-HD Nyan Gareth video for 90 minutes..

The good news is that the HTC One outperformed the Galaxy S4, managing to lose only 19% of life during the test, the same as the Xperia Z and 2% better than the S4.
