This is what kills me. The stats are available for everyone to see, yet nobody wants to look. I'm 38 years old and violent crime is at the lowest rate it's ever been at in my lifetime. Just because we have the Internet now and every little thing gets over reported doesn't change the actual crime statistics.

Supposedly on the decline. It might be, it might not, but stats come from the cops, and when they come from a different party, they are still originally from the cops.

I'm not terribly bright, but I would think that the cops want crime to be low enough that people don't riot, but look high enough that the populace demands bigger police budgets and more power for police. (the effect being, crime doesn't happen to you, so your actual action is low, but seems to happen all the time to others, so your couch-action is high)

Fortunately monsters like them aren't just born, they're made. But what's unfortunate is the cycle of abuse and neglect is no where near an end and will certainly continue.

While I have no doubt that someone failed in these kid's upbringing, abuse and neglect aren't excuses for this kind of behavior.

I agree. But as I skimmed through the article, I didn't see any mention of *why* these kids would do such a thing. A lot of people just brush it off as a freak of nature incident, with no rhyme or reason, as if some people are inherently evil, just some kids who got together and made a bad decision!, which is false. I think it's worth pointing out.
