This blog is hilarious and perfectly illustrates how Vancouver has been immune to the "housing crisis". For a couple of million you can move into a mansion with land in other parts of the world, while in the city of Vancouver, the GVRD, a couple mil will get you a post WWII grey stucco box on a tiny lot best suited for bulldozing...

Absurd Vancouver Property (September 5th, 2013) | the thirties grind

Absurd Vancouver Property (August 29, 2013) | the thirties grind

Absurd Vancouver Property (August 22nd): Vancouver’s cheapest house | the thirties grind

Absurd Vancouver Property: August 15, 2013 | the thirties grind

Absurd Vancouver Property (August 8th, 2013) | the thirties grind

etc.

Oh, nice one for just under a mil...

If the land has planning, I can see why these "properties" are asking so much, the price is for the land. Supply and demand. I'm sure you'd pay just as much in most other major cities?

Did you even look at the posts? Several illustrate what you get in other cities for the same prices. For example...

Absurd Vancouver Property (September 5th, 2013) | the thirties grind << note Dexter's house in Hollywood

Absurd Vancouver Property (August 1st, 2013) | the thirties grind << note Chuck Norris' Dallas home

Absurd Vancouver Property: May 10, 2013 | the thirties grind << Houses in Toronto

Is it because of foreign money flowing in?

Yup. Lots of properties are actually vacant and most condos downtown are as well. People don't actually live here it's just a good place for them to hide their money.

I work for a home builder and we just build a house that is selling for $4 mil and it's honestly nothing what a $4mil house should look like.

It kinda sucks living here and thinking that you might never be able to actually to afford a house but BC is huge and beautiful so you could really go anywhere.

Great blog.

Fucking Vancouver, such a beautiful city but the rich Chinese investors have made it totally unreachable for the rest of us.

Next in line: Calgary.

Why would someone pay millions to live on a ghost estate/street/area? It's probably intended to keep peasants out. Mind you, the cleaners are probably having a hell of time.
