V. Putin in NYTimes - A Plea for Caution From Russia

It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation. There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too. We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.

EQUALLY INTOLERANT OF GAYS AMIRITE PUTIN?!?!

Hello friends,

Putin is type man who use one hand to give you hug and use the other hand to stab you with knife in stomach when no looking.

Good luck bros

Holy shit.

a) Kudos to Putin for trying to reach out in such a direct manner.
b) Kudos to NY Times for publishing the article. That was pretty ballsy of them.

I also have to note, the US media is god damn good at what they do. Some of the absolute best marketers on the entire planet right there. Even when I'm reading some of the articles about Syria, I catch myself thinking, "geez, that's horrible, we can't allow Syria to do that!". Then I quickly remind myself it's all bullshit.

We don't even know what happened yet, but somehow Syria is this evil regime, and under no circumstances is allowed to have chemical weapons whatsoever. We don't even know who did what yet. Yet, the US is allowed to invade countries using white phosphorus, and all is well in the world. WTF?

FYI this was done by a major PR firm

US has a massive army sure, and what? Does anyone have any idea what kind of impact this potential war will have on you or the world? How many lives the US will loose. How many other lives will be lost around the world. What is happening now in Syria is nothing compared to what could happen if an all out war broke out. What happens if they need to do a massive draft. Most of you guys states side are probably ideal candidates for soldiers. How awesome would it be when you have to go to war and hold a gun and be in the line of fire? Shit will get real, real fast.

The UN is there to rule, if there is any wrong doing. The UN will call it out and then you can have your day and not as an aggressor but as a welcomed aid. Right now the world is watching closely and there are not many people that like what they see, including the vast majority of US citizens.

The only ones that want war are the ones that have something to gain such as resources or defense contracts.

So he's challenging American exceptionalism, which in marketing terms is America's brand. Is he right, or is it just sour grapes from the leader of a diminished superpower?

I think he's guilty of wishful thinking. Shit happens all over the place and "Look at what's happening there, DO SOMETHING!" is what US exceptionalism is all about.

The world always turns its lonely eyes to Big Daddy USA to take charge when there are problems. Most other countries are too small, broke, lack authority or simply don't want to expend their own resources and manpower taking care of things, sooo....

Go ahead and call me an imperialist. Come at me, bro. :bootyshake:

You aren't an imperialist. You are just poorly informed.

Probably not wise to jump into what is - for me at least - quite an emotionally charged subject with only two posts and a few glasses of wine in me, but...

Putin is a thug, for sure, a lot like the oligarchs in the 'West', but that's what shock capitalism will do to a society. Despite suggestion otherwise Putin generally enjoys support in his country (from my understanding), which is a lot more than can be said for Obama, Cameron and co.

To be clear I'm against chemical, or any other weapons of, mass destruction. But from where I'm standing that red flag looks more like a herring: Especially given 'our' previous form with those weapons and the region. Looks a lot more like a massive power play to me.

I just worry that while the situation seems to have cooled down a bit over the past few days (and nobody really wants it) we've come so far that all it would take is a small miscalculation and this ugly posturing could explode into a massive great big fuck off war. (Then again, the Cuban Missle Crisis was a whole lot closer, so hopefully it's just my paranoia..)

When we went to war in Iraq I was all for it but I see through that shit now and have done for quite a few years now. I'm not alone. The general perception is shifting, the masses are more aware now. Of course all it will take is a serious threat for everybody to rally behind the flag, but we've got to stay positive, hey!

I believe we're the same, it's our environment and experiences that shape our perception and beliefs, which is what ultimately separates us. (Admittedly language barrier doesn't help.) But Russian/American, Black/White, Muslim/Atheist, whatever. We're all in this little life together and one way or another it's time to stand up and be counted.

Sure my head is going to hurt in the morning. /rant
