“At a special event in the garage where Google was born, the company announced a new “Hummingbird” search algorithm is live and especially designed to handle complex queries.”

“Despite a good amount of questioning from the audience on just how Hummingbird worked, Google avoiding getting too technical. While they did say that this was the biggest overhaul to their engine since the 2009 “Caffeine” overhaul (which focused on speed and integrating social network results into search) and that it affects “around 90% of searches”, there wasn’t much offered in terms of technical details.”

“Also announced today is a Knowledge Graph filter that’s evident on searches like “impressionist painters.” The filter sits in the upper right above the result carousel and lets the searcher switch to similar results for other types of artists.”

This shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody.

Search is slowly evolving from "showing results" to "answering questions", and that was the purpose of the knowledge graph from the beginning.
 
I know this girl that got approached to do some work for G before this algo hit because they needed folks in Mexico. Basically rating "user intent." I'll just say that that is one big dumb machine and they are trying to make it smarter. Can't talk about this here shhhh This one is especially important to Local

Yup, I know of people here in the states working on similar projects for G. They keep departments completely isolated so you can't see what the other hand is doing.
 
Google the search engine that implements different rules for different sites. Google spams, it's okay just curating content. Regular website spams, how come you're using duplicate content.

You watch very soon, organic search will be linked to paying advertisers. And you know what, no govt rules can stop them as they actually own the platform and real-estate.
 
their algo is getting really dumb, some searches i'm searching super + kw, and they are forcing me into hyper + kw, though there are plenty of result for super +kw.
