I've been using Hitfilm 2 Ultimate for a while and it's not after effect but it can do a lot for the money. This free version is the express version that doesn't have the particle simulator and a couple other things but can do a lot of stuff none the less. Even if you are not into video editing well it's free and usually goes for $150 so just get it and dabble.

The only catch is you have to send a tweet before getting a serial number.

You don't actually have to send the tweet to get the serial number, just close the tweet window once it pops up.

I'm going to try this out... I have the adobe suite but I'm too stupid to figure out after effects or premiere. Is Hitfilm 2 good for stupid people?
 
Nevermind, I get error messages when I try to install this...

I guess I'll have to un-retard myself and learn the adobe stuff.
 
its easier than after effects but not easy. Most effects have to be built but there are a lot of presets you can use and manipulate.
