It's probably just because I'm drunk, but think about it... when was the last time you seen a movie come out of Hollywood of a true, successful, entrepreneur story? There's lots of movies like Wolf of Wall Street and whatever, but by the end of the movie they're always the bad guy sitting in a jail cell. Nowadays, you never see a movie of some guy starting with nothing, making it, then continuing on with the dream. No, no... he always ends up being a criminal behind bars by the end of the movie.

The entire media, movies, music, everything... has been geared towards being anti-entrepreneurial. Or am I just being drunk? Seems like that though...

You're just drunk. Again.

How the hell do you type so well for a drunkard is the better question to be asking...

Seriously though, what I'm saying is true. Back in say the 50s, people went to the theaters, and watched movies about the "American dream" coming true for some poor schmuck who worked hard.

Nowadays, people watch movies about someone who cheated the system, became rich for a while, and ended up in a cell at the end of it. The only "heros" you see in movies now are US soldiers who sacrifice their lives during war for this or that reason.

Prove me wrong.

Systematic brainwashing at its best.

The American Dream is a marketing ploy... It was never real, it was just a pie in the sky dream for everyone to shoot for and reach by "doing the right thing"...

Well, I don't about you, but I'd prefer everyone have the "American dream", versus an EBT card.

Ploy or not, American dream seems to make for a better society.

Try telling that to all the degenerates living off the taxes I pay. That's the new American dream.

I remember seeing American Beauty in the theaters. In fact, there was an article about the gothic chick on Yahoo news last week in regards to how she stays under the radar.

The problem is that people have the desire but not the ambition. Ask any stranger, "you want $50 million?" You'll get a 100% response rate. Then ask "Will you do exactly what it takes to make that happen?" You'll get a .0000001% response rate.

People want success but they don't have the ambition. They like to see those who have the ambition punished for succeeding where they failed. They like to believe that success is impossible without "cheating" in some way. And that success must be punished.

My #1 rule: Fuck what everyone else thinks. I don't have to cheat to win. I just have to show up with the ambition. 99.9999% of people can't or won't do that. It's not my problem. It's a waste of energy worrying about it.

You get value by giving it. That is a concept that very few people understand. Everyone is looking for a shortcut.

Hollywood and the MSM paint entrepreneurs to be villains, because their target market are wage slaves. Wage slaves despise entrepreneurs and stories about the rise and fall of entrepreneurs will always appeal to them - because they love to see people fail at what they can never accomplish themselves.

Most people do just enough to scrape by. Just enough to not be fired. They don't think that people who do more to provide value deserve value in return. Luckily they still end up giving their money to those who do provide value - and they always will - no matter how much legitimate entrepreneurs are vilified.

Our society is transitioning from 'American dream' to a kind of cyberpunk dystopia.

Except instead of cool cybernetic implants we get fucking iphone 5's.

I suspect the big players have decided they like a different narrative at this point.

"Everyone's out to kill you, give us money to save you" is so much easier.

That's my point. 50 years ago it wasn't like that. 50 years ago entrepreneurs were painted as absolute heros. Nowadays, they're painted as villains.

Again, systematic brainwashing at its best.

Don't waste energy worrying about shit you can't change bro. Be the hero. Prove them wrong.

this + stop worrying about the what the movies show and the systematic brainwashing. That is not what's getting your bills paid, It's money you make.

I've imbibed too, so from one drunk to another.

Like most things in reality, it doesn't spring from a single source or influence, but rather a convergence of events and tendencies each originating from the last group of events and tendencies in a never ending chain.

There are movies that go against what you are saying (facebook movie). Still, you have a point. But correlation does not equal causation.

The reality of success isn't as exciting as they put on the movies. It is a grind. And most people don't care to go to the movies to see a grind. They are looking for escapism. Movies like the wolf of wallstreet provide that escapism with clearly defined characters that aren't mentally challenging to digest.

Entrepreneurship is discouraged a bit, but nothing as much as you think. Try to start a business in Thailand or China and you'll see what I'm talking about.

The main reason it isn't discouraged more is because every market will have low hanging fruit that are not profitable in an easily scalable way (yet) for big capital to come and take over.

So yes, the big boys would rather not see movies promoting entrepreneurship (to a degree) but it isn't exactly hard to 'contain' given people's preferences.

Seriously though, what I'm saying is true. Back in say the 50s, people went to the theaters, and watched movies about the "American dream" coming true for some poor schmuck who worked hard.

I believe you are idealizing the past. 50 years ago people were less inclined to entrepreneurship because a good % of the population had a much greater level of job stability, and another good % didn't want a job because they wanted to smoke pot all day and form communes.

If you wanted to draw a line in the sand and say entrepreneurship died in America, it would be at the great depression.

But even then, when you talk about 'entrepreneurship' in a mostly agrarian society, you might as well be talking about survival, since they didn't view themselves as entrepreneurs, but farmers doing what farmers do. Many if not most of them would have obtained family land from homesteading. Which was basically land obtained by the gov from a massacre of the previous population. So it wasn't exactly a bed of roses and good will back then either.

Humans are vicious little creatures, even among and perhaps especially among the 'kindest'. In fact the spectrum of society tends to work to go full circle, with convergence between the two most polar extremes (so that the kindest might have more in common with the most ruthless rather than someone in the center of the spectrum)

lulz Belfort he did two years in a rich prison and still lives a life of luxury. He won in the end. If anything wolf of wall street showed people how great the millionaire entrepreneur life can be.
