EDM / Jam Band Thread...

Anyone like these gays? Papadosio?

They remind me of eoto. That particular set was mid-feb in FL.

Flipped through that Youtube vid, and there doesn't seem to be any vocals. Are there any?

If not, then no, I don't like them. My music needs to have a meaning / message behind it.

They have them, and maybe something substantial is going on there, but I don't know. Could be horrible.

I agree with the sentiment and do appreciate lyrics. It's a more recent thing for me to appreciate music as a background for human interaction, as opposed to an explanation or validation.

I used to not understand how people could listen to music and work at the same time. Lyric-heavy music seems to eat up mental processing for me. With a decent sound system, I can let good instrumental music come and go as needed.

You can tell these guys have seen their fair share of Phish shows. They will always be a novelty though. When they do sing it is pretty bad. Good musicians though. I might throw them on after a big fatty and a few beers.

For you guys that want Lyrics, check out String Cheese Incident, also known as Cheese, or SCI. They jam hard and have lots of good vocals, but aren't as electronic. Most of the electronic jam bands sing less.

This is my favorite electronic jam band, pretty similar to Papadosio... they do have some vocals, but overall awesome tunes. I listen to their albums a lot while I work. They have epic live shows, a lot of them are available online. STS9 / Soundtribe Sector 9

This is another awesome jam band that's a festival staple, LOTUS:

Then there is an act that's fucking great called Quixotic Fusion, you may have seen them on TED or youtube. They're known for their funky, earthy electronic beats and live dancers. It's a couple of guys, they produce electronic tracks and then do live drums, sometimes violin, and then world-class dancers. Check them out

And finally, this dude is fuckin boss, probably my favorite producer right now... his engineering is so damn tight and crisp. Kalya Scintilla, he plays violin over his own alien-bass productions. I can't get enough. This is best in some nice over the ear headphones or a bangin' system.

I really like them live, but can't handle them in a car or at home for some reason. It's not an instrument issue either, because I actually like shit like banjos and accordions if the lyrics are heavy... like Counting Crows, for instance.

STS9... all day long. I'll check that other stuff out, thx.

This is a good playlist... I set and forget it regularly.

You’ve clearly not listened to SCI recently, the only banjos and/or accordions I’ve seen them play with have been members from other bands they’re playing at festivals with that join them for one song. And by “recently” I mean the last 10+ years of seeing 3-5 festivals of theirs a year. Their studio albums have all sucked, but I enjoy listening to the shows I’ve seen.

heh, I wish. The closest fast food joint is about 25km away. I'm stuck cooking every meal. And...

They're a bit dark for me to identify with at this point in my life, but I've seen them live, and it was like a giant bar fight about to happen at any moment. I wanted no part of that, but it was like the entire set encouraged it or something.

For perspective, it was a giant outdoor amphitheater, not a little cramped bar or something. I was far away in a hammock, not caring much, but the crowd got more and more dangerous through the entire set.

Nah, not really my style... too heavy for me. I'm too much of a pussy to like the heavy stuff. I'd be more of a Clapton guy.

Or some good ole' John Lennon is always good:

Shit like that helps remind me we're all human when needed.
