I mean, lets be honest, if you're posting old but equally good hip hop in a thread that is probably being frequented by hip hop heads, then this thread is essentially useless.

But I like to touch my epeen too, so...

Interesting to see differing views on "Real Hip Hop".

Classical slapstick rappers need chapstick.

Illmatic is the Greatest Rap Album of all-time. I've heard Nas referred to as your favorite rapper's favorite rapper. Nas' later albums are really good but not even close to the epicness of Illmatic.

That's funny. I remember one of my buddies in HS telling me to go cop the album and he was raving about it. I got it on tape -- listened to it all the way through. Then listened to it again.

Then I threw it away. And I told him the next day that the album ate a dick and I tossed it.

I just listened to it again a couple of years ago. I was blown away. I won't say greatest of all time but I guess I wasn't ready for it back then.

I find that I miss a lot of things over the years, for whatever reason, so I personally appreciate older submissions, as they tend to be on peoples' 'best all time' lists and such. And the more time that has elapsed, someone feels it still stands up enough to post, the bigger the endorsement.

What's your greatest hip-hop album of all time?

I never argue with people about music because it's a personal preference thing about what they like. But I don't think there is a track on the Illmatic album that isn't awesome and I haven't found another hip-hop album that I didn't skip tracks on because some of their songs suck.

Nas was 19 when he made the Illmatic album and in my opinion his rhymes, flows, stories that he was telling, and the beats were incredible.

Honestly - the Roots how I got over is probably my fave album. Live Band (real musicians) + Black Thought [guess i should have posted that originally].

Top 3 tracks
1) The Fire: 34:24
2) Doing it Again 31:48
3) How I got Over 19:25
