It seems like it's really hard nowadays to find a nice/warm/affordable place to live in the Caribbean/Central America region. Surprisingly the most stable location I've been to in that region is Cuba. Too bad their Internet is 14.4kbps quality. Otherwise I would have moved there. 3 hours flight from Canada. It would have been perfect.

I've heard Nicaragua is beautiful and peaceful, but not sure, as I've never been. My one month in Barbados was enough to scare me away from the entire Caribbean region.

Basically, the cops in the area are useless, so a bunch of "self defence" militias popped up in the area, and now the militias are apparently at war with each other. This is one of the "major successes" anarchists kept preaching about a couple years ago, saying it proved how privatized militias work better than government forces.
What did you like about Barbados? Did you go from airport to 5 star resort, and stayed there, except for guided tour trips? Or what?
In Barbados, you're stuck in 5 star "luxury" hotels, and can't venture out without a driver or guide, or something. If you do, you'll get eaten alive.
Costa Rica,Nicaragua and Guatemala are fine. Mexico is fine in parts.
