I'm just curious how did wicked fire start?

I mean someone had to build the momentum into it to get it going where at least 2,3k users signed up at once?

I guess if you built a e-mail list up through PPC you could launch it at once and get users to sign up very fast, but how did it get started or I guess I should ask how do successful forums get started from my understandings a lot of them get started through PPC and things to that nature.

Jon would have to answer that for you, or someone that was here when it first started. The way I understand it is he was tired of being on gay forums like DP. He thought up wf, started the buzz amongst his peers and that's how the lot of them ended up here.

The irony, of course, being that this ended up being the gayest webmaster forum of them all.

Yea :)

Jon masturbated one night, and the cum-spot on the towel looked like the wickedfire logo. The rest, they say, is history.

First there was Jon's "How Much I made with CJ thread" at SitePoint which got uber-popular there. Then he started his blog which was getting thousands of uniques a day. After that Jon started WickedFire.

There was this crazy-ass competition in the beginning which earnersforum tried to copy but ended up giving WickedFire a LOT of exposure.

Wickedfire started because Jon was sick of the bullshit at Sitepoint (I believe). June 24, 2006 was the first day of the forum, and within the first week there were over 1000 members.

I found this site from Sitepoint thread Who is the Best Money Maker over here

This is when I first learned about this guy named Mook-Jon. I thought he was some Asian kid (later I find out that he is Jewish) who wasn't afraid to say what he had on his mind on SP forum. He posted his CJ stats which got lot of people talking: fake screen shot this and can't be true, etc...

That got lot of attention so he started his own forum in June 06' Tons of people followed here including myself.

Turns out to be one of the informative forums out there minus RR'n stuff but thats part of this forum. Thanks for having a nice forum where I can read and keep up with the industry.

I remember reading that thread and thinking he was asian too for some stupid reason.

I still say he photoshopped the whole thing...no one can make money online, it's just a big farce.

Well, why don't you just start a blog and give good advice of 'what not to do' and 'what to do' based on other poeple's websites you come accross or just good ideas of what to do with your site. You would never have to reveal your biggest secrets or your sites urls. But this would at least help some people who want to take the time and listen to what your willing to say.

Hmm... I think you're onto something there. Trouble is, I'm fairly pressed for time, and the ones I'm friends with here know that content is definitely a big weakness for me. I get bored and lazy and just jump ship to a new project. I'm a marketing and advertising kinda guy, not a content one.

Looks like he took his advice, I always knew jon was a good listner :rasta:

It's weird to think that WF started out of Jon posting earnings... Don't we all like to flame bloggers like Shoemoney or John Chow who do the same? Maybe they're just trying to create the next WF :).

We don't flame them for posting their screenshots or disclosing their earnings but rather flaunting all that without giving any substantial knowledge to visitors -- which is indeed done on wickedfire.
