We had a self-deflecting network that would shut down access from ranges of IP's if it sensed a threat, usually they were coming in from Asia and Eastern Europe. We did shut down all access once because of a huge attack, but that only lasted a couple of days. I used to work for a huge payroll firm, so this would be a daily occurrence.
