I know its way early...but does anyone have plans on where to stay for ASW? I've never been to Vegas before, I have heard from friends that Hard Rock is the place to be. I have a couple (non-AM) friends that want to come there with me so I want to be sure we're at a fun hotel, but I also want to make sure I'm somewhere close to the AM guys too. I stayed at the Westin for ASE, and most of the contacts I made were with people staying at the same hotel. Just was wondering where everyone is at with their plans so I can figure things out accordingly.

ASW is being held at the Rio this year.
Hard Rock is a long way from the Rio so you'll be cabbing it all the time. I'd just stay at the Rio or somewhere mid-strip if you want to be close.

Depends on the budget, Hard Rock is actually pretty pricey and the rooms aren't that nice (unless you get a suite, the one at the top has a bowling alley in the suite). For the same price you could stay at Wynn, Palazzo, Venetian, Trump etc. If you want to hang with a younger crowd with the best looking people go to Hard Rock or Palms (which is just across the street from Rio). The RIO usually has a ASW special price (I think it was about 100 last year) and its convenient as you just need to stumble back to your room instead of waiting in line for a cab then stumbling back to your room. The rooms are all suites too but not that fancy by Vegas standard. Still better than the Hilton or Marriott in almost all other cities though.
The Hard Rock is nice and is usually jam packed with women but it is way out of the way. The Rio is totally a party place, same goes for the Palms. Since it's going to be at the Rio I'd recommend one of those two.
Yeah I know ASW is at the Rio. Since I've never been to Vegas before, I don't know how far each hotel is from there. ASE was at the Seaport, I was a block away at the Westin, which was a blast since so many WF people stayed there. Wasn't sure if it was the same situation.
I stayed at the Mirage last year and ended up spending the entire time hanging out at the palms and rio. I'm headed to vegas in 3 days, this time staying at Caesars. It may be a happy medium point, but I'll probably just do the palms next year for asw. I'll report back.
Well, I just called the Palms. I plan on being in Vegas from Fri the 9th - Wed the 13th. Cant book a reservation on Fri 9th unless I pay for the 8th too...$459/night from Thurs-Sat, then $299/night from Sun-Tues. I make decent money and all, but $2,274 + taxes and fees is a little ridiculous for a hotel alone on a 6 day vacation. The Rio is $1,080 for the same days.

Best value for the center of the strip if you aren't going to be spending much time in your room. Plus, you have the Rockhouse right there and O'Sheas for 24hr happy hr and beer pong, lol.
Flamingo is another option that is close by and has reasonable rates. I was just there a few weeks ago and they had a stripper pole in the middle of the top-less pool. It was great entertainment until some douche bag decided to hop on it and it collapsed and hit an older guy in the head. The pool manager then took it out because it was too much of a liability.
Like I said before, I stayed at the Westin for ASE...but the conference was held at the Seaport. Every good contact I made was at the Westin, I didn't know if it'd be the same deal for ASW.
I was at the Flam for 10 days in July and spent a lot of time at that pool. It was only on Friday night that the topless hotties were out.
The other days it was some Arkansas orca with nipples the size of dinner plates.
What if you have the option of being comped a room those nights at any Harrah's properties...would you still pay to be at the rio, or suck it up with cab fees since you're getting your room free? (Black Jack can have its benefits)
I know the Rio is old school, but you're not in Vegas at that time to go on vacation, although it can be fun with WF and AM guys and gals as I would imagine. I would think that in the long run, the contacts you would make from just staying at the conference hotel would be more valuable than staying somewhere else for free...any thoughts???
I guess that just depends on your own financial situation and what is more important to you. I personally would still stay where everyone else is. It's just much easier meeting up, sharing cabs, calling someone and meeting them for breakfast downstairs...etc. But as long as you get on someone like Nickycakes call list (Nick, you don't mind me volunteering you to be the event coordinator right?) usually you can stay further away and still find everyone.
I'd say its more worth it to stay where everyone else is staying, or close to it. Just takes the whole pain in the ass out of the situation.
I mean, hell everyones getting piss ass drunk anyways so it's nice to not have to go as far.
Planet Hollywood just did a huge renovation... Not too shabby and the Desert Passage / whatever their shops area is called is usually crawling with weekend girlfriends.
