The only thing good about the Rio is the Voodoo Lounge up top.

So you are wondering how did a one-legged black kid who looks like he is 12 get in there? Hell if I know really...but I basically got the party started up there with my mad dance skills.

i'm so looking forward to vegas. I've never been to vegas, and throw in ASW and it should be a fun few days.

now to increase my earnings so i can blow them all on poker.
 
I would stay at the Rio. I stayed on the strip last ASW because I didn't know any better. I rented a car and was able to drive back and forth for cheaper than cab fare for the amount of times I drove back and forth...but looking back on it - I would have preferred to be where all the action was.
 
But guys if you are frugal or just plain poor, there is a free shuttle at the Paris Las Vegas or Harrah's that takes you to the Rio every 30 minutes. Bad thing is the shuttle stops at 1am...
 
All this pool talk and it's going to be January.... I doubt the hotties are going to be at the pool.... unless it's some freak hot snap....just saying.

Hard Rock is way too far away from the Rio... so is Luxor, Manadalay bay, NyNy, MGM, Excalibur, etc...

I personally love the MGM grand (you really can't beat that horse racing game) but it's too far from Rio too. I'll probably try to stay at the Bellagio, Mirage, Treasure Island or Rio. All depending on how things go in the next few months.

Also, I wouldn't book this soon. Just my thoughts from being there quite a few times. I've found you can get some good deals a bit closer to the dates. When you book (go through the hotel as it's usually cheaper and can include promos) check on the 'specials' on each website as you can normally get some sort of 'free spa pass' or something like that. Also, ask for a strip view when you check in ( the non-strip rooms suck) and if they won't give it to you slip them a $20.

I may have been to Vegas too many times because this could be my most useful post on WF.
 
This year I'm going to try to hang out with the WF troll more. Last year i walked away for like 2 minutes and turned around to invite him to go ghost bar with us and he disappeared ninja style. That guy is damn good

Not really, it depends. I just came back from Vegas and booked my room 6-months in advance and it was $75 more a night if I had waited longer. And the plane tickets went from $198 r/t to almost $400 r/t.

It's best to lock in a rate direct with the hotel then if it drops more they will usually give you the cheaper rate. Or you can cancel all together if you find a better deal at another hotel.

Good point turbolapper...now the question is, how do you get on THE call list?
 
the rio is a shithole- I was upgraded to a massive ~2000 sq ft suite there and it still is a shitty hotel, in a shitty location with a shitty view.

It's easy to get around in Vegas and all the cabs have a cooler of beer in the back (tip for you non vegas frequenting folks- ask your cabbie/limo/towncar driver- 8 out of 10 will toss a brew your way and then just tip accordingly).

That said- I'll likely be at the Palms. Big fan of partying at the Hard Rock, not a big fan of staying there.
