I also find taking the rush hour tube into London (or whatever faceless big city is nearest) now and again, and looking at the poor, miserable bastards who have been doing the same journey for 20 years a great motivator.

That's actually a good idea. I remember taking the train into Manahattan many years ago and feeling like a sheep being let to the slaughter house everyday. That's was some damn good motivation for me.

I now drive through a nearby area that is one of the richest in the entire country and check out the endless blocks of insane mansions etc when I am feeling unmotivated. It works like a charm evertime.

Btw, forgot to say good luck man. Listen to the advice of Bofu2U and amateursurgeon as they both tell the truth. Being easily distracted, lack of focus, and lack of motivation are the biggest issues for most self employed people. Keep that in mind and take measures to not let them be a factor and you are in good shape.

I also suggest reading the book "Eat that Frog" when you get a chance.

Thanks guys

I gotta admit its a good feeling going into my 9-5 and not giving shit. I walked around all day. Sat outside on the bench. Took a 2 hour lunch break. Left 2 hours early.

Back to real work now.

Congrats mate. You will look back on this and remember it as being one of the best things you ever did.

Just another bit of advice, it's tough, but ignore all your family and friends (when they give you that look). Especially when times are tough and you can tell there's an "I told you so" about to be dropped.

I went full time about 6 years ago now. I get furious listening to my friends talk about how much they hate their jobs.

It's a fantastic feeling going into this biz full time I remember it well. However the even better feeling which should be very important for you next couple of goals is not having to worry if things go south for a while. Two things I suggest having very high on your priority list are:

1. Save at least 6 months of living expenses ASAP, I like to keep a years worth. Just in case. I really feels good to have that saftey net there if things go south.

2. Diversify things. If you like me started in one type of traffic source you probably have a lot of big ups and downs at times. Maybe you don't if not more power to you. But the other thing that made me much more comfortable is getting traffic from different sources and working with diversified offers. The better you get at different things the better you can stabilize your income. Facebook ads may change their policies but you'll still have adwords or whatever.

just a couple of the little goals that made the big differences in for me in security and dependability.

Congratulations, and best of luck to you.

I second all those who have talked about being disciplined about working hours, and about keeping your goals in focus. Learn some skills too, besides marketing, if you haven't already. Copywriting is a really good one, and web design.

A friend of mine quit his job and was doing well with AM, then got too cocky and slack. He ended up having to look for a 9-5 job again as he couldn't pay his bills.

Congrats! Schedule EVERYTHING! That has been the biggest lesson I have learned. To many things fall through the cracks if you leave it on sticky notes, notepads or in your head. Use a Calendar system like Outlook or Google Calendar and schedule all your task in so you have daily tasks to do and a slotted time for them.

Now go make more $$$!

I'm....still in COllEGE. . . .. . . maybe i shall consider this fulltime stuff when im done with my degree. Welps to all of you whos doing full time - I ENVY YOU! atleast u guys got alot more time to make $$ :)

Accept the fact that you will be playing a lot of xbox now. If you don't own an xbox, now is the time to go and buy one.

I speak the truth.

To me that kinda defeats the purpose of not being employed. For all the stereotypical "slackers" who want to quit jobs to stay home and play video games, there are also a lot of us that like having more freedom to do something meaningful.

i want to so bad, but i don't know if i can leave my safety net of a steady paycheck and insurance

All the best buddy, I have done that a year back now and quite enjoying the freedom of not going to office and working Monday to Friday's.
