Unprofessional sites okay for personal topic stuff?

I am making a site about a disorder I have. I want it to appear amateur, but at the same time I plan on making money on it through product referrals and adsense.

Is it acceptable for the site to have no layout and just be text based, or do people expect the world even from little personal sites?

I have a disorder site that is crap with no real design to speak of and just little ramblings from me. Not even a blog or on a blog platform. It ranks well and people like to email me and try to talk about stuff, but I havent made any money off it.

Depending on how common the disorder is and other factors, people probably wont care about a slick layout or anything like that, at least if your traffic is natural. A lot of people are caught up in making nice looking sites, which makes sense for PPC landing pages and the like. But a lot of websites that make money and get traffic look like the were made by a first grader in 1995.
